Quick Look: Nicktoons MLB

Powdered toast man! There is so much (awesomely) wrong with that character... and Ren and Stimpy in general.

Spongebob looks like a nightmare.

There must be some complicated licensing issues. They have no Rugrats or Hey Arnold characters (the latter of which often played baseball), but they have Yak from Ren and Stimpy. Yak.

I would have flipped out for something like this when I was a kid.

This seems like some sort of horrible nightmare scenario come to life. Like, how much prescription cough syrup did someone at THQ have to consume in order to come up with this idea?

Also: Avatar: The Last Airbender was an alright show. I don't get where you people come from when you say it's one of your favorite shows or whatever, but as far as children's television goes, it's certainly several steps ahead of whatever other crap was on Nickelodeon at the time.

I'm almost 25 and even now I was flipping out from seeing Powered Toast Man.

I really have to hand it 2K's handling of the MLB license. They are not a "one and done" kinda company, unlike EA, who refused to even attempt an arcade-style NFL game for the longest time. Or THQ, who only did one type of WWE game until All Stars. But 2K? In addition to their sim series, they've tried again and again to do arcade sports right, with The Bigs, localizing Konami's Power Pro series a bunch, and now with this. I dig that.

Even though I have to say, everything here looks just so wrong:) All the Nicktoons are modeled pretty well, I'll give High Voltage credit. They just were not meant to exist in 3D half the time, or be lit realistically.

For sheer weirdness and ambition, this game is a-okay in my book already:) But really 2K, just make a new Base Wars game already! For those of you who don't know what that is, shame - check this out:

Dude, one of those loading screens was from Rocko's Modern Life! I used to love that show when I was a kid.

I am surprised how positive some people's memories of mid-90s Nicktoons are. I mean, I grew up right around that time, and changed the channel when a lot of those shows were on. In particular, how did anyone like Rocko's Modern Life, AAAAH Real Monsters, or Angry Beavers? Those shows were terrible. I thought Hey Arnold was pretty good, though.

Also, still laughing at people bothering to correct Ryan and Jeff about Toph. Look, I watched the show, and thought it was pretty great. But you're not going to convince two men in their 30s to give a shit about a character from something they've never watched, and probably can't be convinced to watch. Remember, anime is for jerks.

i would be tempted if there were more nicktoons and less MLB

Super weird that the dudes look alright but all the nicktoons look like garbage. Also, I thought I knew nicktoons reasonably well but i don't know who like 1/3 of those dudes are.

No, seriously. Were you listening? Invader Zim was a great show, but you don't have to defend the characters even when they're blatantly misused.

i dunno, i was watching rocko clips a month ago & they were better than ever since i can appreciate the little details being older (plus i enjoy spongebob due to it being a lot of the same people that worked on rocko)

maybe you're more into realistic shows/premises/characters like doug or even rugrats? i like both wacky & realistic, as long as it's original & not lifeless

This is pretty much The Bigs with Nicktoons characters, and I loved The Bigs. Might have to check this one out when it drops down in price.
