I am surprised how positive some people's memories of mid-90s Nicktoons are. I mean, I grew up right around that time, and changed the channel when a lot of those shows were on. In particular, how did anyone like Rocko's Modern Life, AAAAH Real Monsters, or Angry Beavers? Those shows were terrible. I thought Hey Arnold was pretty good, though.

Also, still laughing at people bothering to correct Ryan and Jeff about Toph. Look, I watched the show, and thought it was pretty great. But you're not going to convince two men in their 30s to give a shit about a character from something they've never watched, and probably can't be convinced to watch. Remember, anime is for jerks.

Probably because the early-mid 90's was the last time Nickelodeon was worth watching? Sure, some might say it's purely nostalgia (part of it certainly is) but I've re-watched all of the shows you've mentioned (I'm 23) and I still think they're fantastic.

Rocko's Modern Life is terrible? You're out of your fucking tree. The show is a classic. I'm curious, what did you enjoy watching growing up?

I think you should have turned off the commentators, made both teams nothing but real MLB players, but still had them playing in one of those ridiculous Nicktoons ball parks. The players' stoic faces would seem all the more absurd!

Oh dear, please stop talking about Avatar (and start watching it, best cartoon in the past ten years!).

That title goes to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

sorry to disappoint you.

I would totally play this just to form a team of Last Airbender characters.

WTF are these shitty characters?  like, SHEEN?  REALLY?  not even jimmy neutron?  no fairly odd parents?  that seems like it would be the obvious choice instead of danny phantom.  and they have ren and stimpy but no rocko, angry beavers....hell, not even catdog!

@mikecardii: Yeah as someone else who's played the Bigs 2, I agree...

This is pretty much The Bigs 2 with a comicbook font and some whacky characters thrown in... The player animations, cameras, sounds, pitching meter, batting... yeah... This is the Bigs 2.

I'm kind of annoyed nobody realized this, but a thank you to Bob Odenkirk in the credits of Nicktoons MLB would not be such a strange thing to see. Tom Kenny - the announcer in this game, voice of SpongeBob, and all-around prolific voice actor - was a major cast member of Mr. Show with Bob and David. They probably still keep in touch.

I've played a lot of Bigs and I can say that that is the Bigs with easier pitching and nicktoons thrown in.  Also, they show the players hot zone because if you throw a strike in their hotzone you get even more turbo.

Man, this game is just weird. I'm surprised they didn't know where the Flying Dutchman was from though.

I was hoping for some Mario Superstar like field interruptions and obstacles, not sure if the Nick Toon stadiums have them, but it makes for a much more interesting experience in my opinion.

Holy shit, this is just The Bigs 2 without the point system. It has the wheelhouse mechanic, and I recognize almost every sound effect they use in this game from The Bigs 2, whether it's the umpire audio or the turbo sound effects. Fuck, even a lot of the animations (even on the Nicktoons) and the announcer talk is taken right out of that game.

This is why we can't have a Bigs 3 - because Nicktoons Baseball. Fuck you, 2K.

Eh, I'm as old as Ryan and have watched it. I'm not saying they are missing out on the pop culture canon or anything, but given Jeff went out of his way to set up (as the Bombcast crew are wont to do in service of a punchline) a premise about misbegotten parents regarding Toph based on the belief she was a boy probably in a Doug style show, it's not unreasonable to throw them a bone here on the knowledge drop. If others have done it...less tactfully, well that's another story. For my money, any show, for kids or not, centered on wholesale genocide as a premise can't be dismissed out of hand. Gargoyles, or heck Gummi Bears for example would also fit into that category.

EDIT - And I liked Rocko a lot. There were definitely clunkers before they figured things out certainly.

Jeff and Ryan have almost no cartoon knowledge. I have to admit, seeing the characters walking around next to human players is a bit unsettling.

Just to clarify in case it hasn't been done already, this is literally The Bigs 2 with Nicktoons in it.
