Quick Look: No Man's Sky

Looks to be about what I wanted from it, so that's cool.

Can't deny that it looks rather ugly at times, but I guess that's the nature of the procedurally generated beast.

This looks fun. The way planets are all right in your face instead of having even remotely realistic distances between them rubs me the wrong way, but just running around the planets looking at stuff looks like a good mindless activity to compliment a podcast or TV show.

I don't know how much Dan and Vinny were actually interested in this game with all religion and animal nonsense that was discussed.

This is THE thing I've been waiting for before automatically buying this game.

Size isn't necessarily the reason why it's called a moon (I mean, if there was something the size of our moon just floating in space on its own, it wouldn't be called a moon). It's because it orbits something with a greater mass which makes it considered a moon. As for the game, I'm a huge sci-fi fan, but I'm more into the more plausible, and willing suspension of disbelief, and yet this game seems like something I can't really immerse myself into in that way. I am also not that into how the gameplay looks, and doing that over and over.

I watched about 45 min and I really don't know what to think of this game. On one hand I like exploration and filling in bars. On the other hand it does seem like it's a very short gameplay loop presented to you in every color of the rainbow.

Watched Jeff's 2 plus hour live stream of No Man Sky and I wasn't too impressed. I'll save my final judgement for when I get around to playing it.

I don't want to be mean to Dan, but that was probably the most scientifically ignorant discussion I've ever heard. I can kinda get not understanding the tides (though his thing about magnetism and gravity was weird), but not knowing birds and mammals are different?

With the speed at which he got that mathematical sequence and his astounding lack of knowledge about many other things I'm beginning to think that Dan is some kind of savant.

Would flying for 20 minutes in blackness between planets be a better game?

Listen, I don't want to be the guy coming her to talk shit or whatever, and I love Dan despite his flaws, but I'm not sure if I should be surprised or not that he doesn't understand gravity. Like, at a very basic level. I mean, this is "Tides go in, tides go out. You can't explain that." level of ignorance.

The FOV on the PS4 version is pretty horrible, glad you're able to adjust it on the PC.

That sure was some science talk. I have basically 0 interest in the game and just decided to put the video on as background noise.

I was not expecting to be regaled with Dan and Vinny discovering things such as the classification of animals. I know I'm certainly bias when listening since I decided to major in biology, but man. I know some people claim that Dan's just "hamming it up for the audience". It's still weird to listen to that conversation just go.
