Quick Look: Road Show: Yar's Revenge

I think the explosive effects look horrible.

I have a bad feeling this will turn out like Blade Kitten.

Definitely reminds me of Battle Engine Aquila from the original Xbox but that's cool since I haven't played a rail shooter since then.    Actually, it might not be that game...I do know I played something similar to this on that console in the early 2000s.  

These developer pieces are great but they are not Quick Looks. Maybe put them under features or something. 
I look for Quick Looks to be informal sitdowns with a game to get an idea what it's all about with little to no preparation or agenda. These are as far away from that as I can imagine. 
 
and yeah, they lost me at anime.

So will there be any Move support for PSN? After playing Dead Space: Extraction HD (that is a mouth full) I'm really enjoying rail shooters with the Move.

The enemies don't explode in a remotely satisfying way..

Looks kind of promising. I wonder how much they were told not to mention panzer dragoon. The music, characters and boss were all direct rips! But thats no bad thing in my book!

Killspace is ex-Obsidian and Pandemic guys? And they're doing this anime art style this well? Damn...now I REALLY wish that Square would let Obsidian do a Chrono game...at least a pitch for another Chrono title. Or an HD remake of an older title. SOMETHING. I didn't know Obsidian had some artists who could make beautiful stuff, instead of what they usually do (aka, "Some of the ugliest games I've ever seen").
 I'm very intrigued by this. I don't really think any one holds the original Atari game in high enough regard to consider this remake blasphemous (but of course  there will always be nerds complaining about change). So any excuse to deliver a sweet, Panzer Dragoon-esque on-rails shooter is one that I  support. Looks like a sweet XBLA/PSN title. 
I was disappointed by the boss fight though. The original Yar's Revenge had a pretty cool boss mechanic of tearing down a shield and firing a missile into the core of the thing. I REALLY expected that all the bosses in this version would be a variation on that idea. Besides the Shield, and the robotic/insectoid visual language of the enemies, this is barely drawing anything from the original game. Which is silly. It was an Atari game - it only had, like, 3 things to draw from in the first place! ;)

Seems alright. Still a weird game to do a sequel/re-imagining thing to.

Alright, gonna be honest here. It looks alright, but when he said the words "Yars Revenge HD Remix" I was infinitely more sold on that game

Set speed to 2x, add cool new explosions, reduce the size of some of those attacks or pan the camera back so you can more easily dodge projectiles instead of feeling trapped by the camera and pulled into them.
 
The game seems okay, though I can't help but wonder how they develop a game without realizing some things are bad and need to be fixed.
 
Also, how the hell are you supposed to read all that unvoiced text while also trying to play the game? Thats pretty silly.

This seems like a great idea.. 3D rail shooter version of a 2D scroller. But man does it look mediocre.
Imagine how cool it could've been if it was more immersive. Like a bigger sound and fatter explosions and shaky camera on getting hit. The way it looks now almost makes it feel like a flash game.

Feel like it should have Move+Sub controller support, it might be blasphemous but it would be a lot of fun.  

Um... the remake everyone wanted and demanded?

Guess I'll go against the grain and say that what they showed looked absolutely gorgeous.  Hopefully it's fun as well.

Looks okay I guess.

It doesn't look bad, but damn that soundtrack needs some excitement.

I'd be up for a game like this. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of Yars' Revenge in there, which is unfortunate, but I could still see myself playing it.
