What a shame for you. You must be devastated.

It's too bad Alex didn't load a save a few levels in since that's when this game starts to get serious. It might not look terribly punishing from that but... just under halfway through the game they start throwing 1200 enemies in one level at you.

Edit: Anyone concerned about the story being overly serious hasn't played more than a level or two in this game. I don't want to list examples because that would ruin it, but I can't imagine a person who would watch the very short cut scenes in this game, and take it at all seriously (unless they're using that word like they do in the game... which means ridiculous as opposed to actually serious). There are squid helicopters in this game (Technopolips actually)... I mean come on.

Also... BFE stands for Before First Encounter.

I like my arcade action shooting FPS games from over the years, including the first two Sam games and Painkiller, but Sam3 is like another developer was given the rights to Serious Sam and they were half done with a COD-ripoff and decided to just jam some models, sound and gameplay changes in there.

I think Alex should have played a bit more and then started the QL at level 4 or 5 where it really shines as a Serious Sam game.

Looks alright and I'm pretty sure it's an awful lot of fun with 4 people (co-op).

find secrets

use melee attacks

pick up the big pile of guns in survival mode

play the campaign in co-op

skip the first 4 levels because they totally suck compared to the rest of the game

@Feigr: You need to chill out. So much freaking hate and your not even on 4chan. Just because you have an internet connection and anonymity does not mean that you should be a totally ass to whom ever you feel. Seems like you should have been taught better as a child.

If you don't like Alex, don't watch a QL with him in it. I will admit, you can be mad at him for sucking at circle strafing and backwards running and gunning (It's Serious Sam for God's sake!) but who are you to judge him on who he is?

Check out the chat on the DM server they joined. People were saying that the Serious Sam DM community didn't like BFE and was sticking with Serious Sam HD.

Reloading makes SS waay harder. And Ironsights? I dunno..

Well, Alex wasn't lying.

It's hard to tell if the insulting and ironic disinterest to the game are as a result of the game or as a result of Alex being Alex and being not good at the game.

"not overly thrilled with this map design" as he runs back and forth and spins the view around so much that even Magellan wouldn't have an idea where to go. And set piece moment happens? Turn to look where you just came from. Oh Jesus Christ. FENTOoooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnn

The slow start in the grimy looking town with enemies that only attack you one at a time is CLEARLY a parody of the shitty shooter games these days, what's with the hate. Obviously this game gets all Serious Sam-y later.

You clearly don't know what Serious Sam has always been and always will be: Irony. It takes stuff from modern shooter games and subtely makes fun of it but a lot of people like you can't actually look past the surface.

Not even good bad. And seems devoid of joy.

Even as someone who like previous games this is still terrible. Too much CoD bullshit in here. Terrible level design.

There is like nothing redeeming here.

It baffles me that so many people still don't know what Serious Sam and CroTeam have always been about especially sad that "people in the know" like Alex and Ryan don't. If you look up Irony in a dictionary you'll see a picture of Serious Sam. These games take what shooter do at the time they came out and slyly makes fun of them. (The older games made fun of Doom, Duke Nukem etc.) In BFE there's ironsights with red dot sights, reloading, macho bro-dudes talking tough, writing akin to modern military, brown city enviroments, really bad E string chug-metal. Does that all sound familiar? Probably because it's been that way in shooters for the last 5 or 6 years. Also I can't fathom Alex having played a SS game before or this one for more than half an hour.

This Quick Look wasn't...good.

The thing about this game that seems to not be readily apparent is that it's poking fun at all the COD bullshit by implementing a "serious" story in the beginning which just turns into Serious Sam very quickly. The fact that they put melee (pretty much knife kills) and looking down the iron sights don't even matter; trying melee in a large group of enemies will get you killed and forget about looking down iron sights.

This gets goofy and it doesn't take very long. You'll be going through pyramids, finding crazy-ass weapons, and hearing super corny jokes.

The first few lvl's are a parody on the current generation shooters. After the first 3 lvls the game basically saids "enough shitting around" and throws hunderds enemies at you.

I never bitch about how someone is playing but my god, Alex really sucks at this game!

People bitch, that's what happens. Personally I really miss Alex being a presence around the office and the Chrono Trigger endurance run seems pretty cool. Would I have liked something other than Chrono Trigger, sure. But maybe there are others that have never played Chrono Trigger, this could be their chance to se it.

The thing is it's just a little frustrating in quick looks when they are played poorly. I feel like they are sort of misrepresenting the game because they aren't effectivly showing what makes the game interesting in the first place. It happens a lot in quick looks of games that they aren't super invested in playing. It defeats part of the purpose of a quick look. Not showing off all the crazy weapons in Serious Sam is like if they had a Saints Row QL where Jeff only used the starter pistol and got in cars the slow way. It's kind of missing the point.

Yeah it seems really weird that Ryan and Alex (especially Alex) don't "get" the beginning of this game.

You start off in the war-torn Middle East and one of your first weapons is an assault rifle with ironsights. The game is clearly doing something.

To me that song seemed more like "a Dethklok song" than "a bad Dethklok song". Except, you know, without the silly lyrics.

what a joyless quicklook. I can't tell if it was the game or if alex had a bad day or something.

usually I think QLs give me a fair representation of the game, but this time I've to look for other sources. all I learned was that alex says "it's a thing" a lot and swings around the mouse to confuse himself. disappointing.

Actually BFE = Before First Encounter aka before the first game where he was send in time back to the past.
