I respect the animation, but the game looks very boring to play boring. I would like to just watch someone play it, and then I would have my fill of it.

Animation looks tight, I have to say I'm as close to buying this game as I ever get with games that look this fun. It just looks pretty repetitive and as far as Vinny saying he got a "Metal Slug vibe" from it- I have no idea where that came from...maybe because of the knife "flash"? The Metal Slug series is light years beyond Shank, I almost thought he was kidding. Almost.  If anything its more akin to Final Fight or TMNT, but...not. I dunno, I'm not trying to be too harsh but other factors have to be weighed before you can really pull the trigger on the price.

I just cannot get past that no one is saying that the game looks like it was made in Flash and After Effects- not that it's a bad thing, I just can't stop looking at it and seeing it. Which, (and this is coming from someone who HAS NOT played it), seems to me that it would have been out sooner if that were the case- with consideration to the length. I'm impressed with the look of it.

Over all, what is with this trend of $15 games that last less than 5 hours? I just think the price point is kinda high for the lack of content, maybe the hype from early game play helped? . If 3 hours is accurate- wow, just wow.   Still it looks fun and I would probably pick it up if I knew that it lasted 5+ hours. Even if its only a downloadable game, and thus judged by different standards than box games, the trend of direct-to-download games are on the uprise and it's time to start thinking about the situation differently. For $15 I would just have to know that there was more to it, it's the principle of the matter.

I like the consistent checkpoint and heals system.  The whole "conserve your health/items/lives the entire game" system always irked me beyond belief.

what would have been the benefit of co op...either way we saw the game... "
i heard its only specific levels that are coop not the whole game :( also couch coop at this day and age when everything is online come on! why not both? "
Hmmm...different levels? Was not aware of this, in that case yes they should have at least shown part of it in co op, but not necessarily the whole thing. Although in this case since it is the second one and the first quick look showed the sigle player they could have gotten away with it all being in co op. So i stand corrected.

I agree, developers have become lazy with this stuff since MS removed the game size limit for XBLA. When you compare this to what the developers were achieving when the cap existed (castle crashers 140mb; bf 1943 half a gig) these guys have no excuses. Even games with a huge amount of audio assets like Deathspank are half this size.

When people have limited HDD space and ISP download caps its extremely inconsiderate to expect people to tolerate this and I hope they lose sales from this lazy coding.

There's a lot of face and neck stabbing, if you like to stab dudes in the face and neck. There's one really good move where you could stab a dude five or six times - very quickly - shank style, like uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, just jabbing. And that's really oddly satisfying.

With so many different scores for the game on different sites, I am waiting for GiantBomb's review as a decider. I've always trusted your taste better than any of the other sites. You also seem a lot less keen on buying into the hype. So c'mon Ryan, please wrap this review up already! (and while you're at it, review Joe Danger as well - the developer would appreciate the exposure, and they deserve it, an amazing game. And you could feel good for supporting a true indie developer.)

Okay, but what if I only pay the $5 matinee price at my local theater? Does that reasoning still apply to me? Cause I wouldn't pay $15 for a minimum replay value, 3 hour game either.

Well no, it doesn't apply to you if you're so hard up for cash that $15 is outside of your price range.  Most of us (us being employed adults, not implying that you aren't), however, spend $15 all the time on things that don't even last as long as a movie or a three hour game.  A couple of decent craft beers plus tip at a bar, for example, will run you more than that.  A meal at a decent restaurant will, too.  An idling MMO account that you haven't had time or the inclination to log in to lately.  All sorts of things.

This game would be much more appealing if it was $10, or even $5. Then everyone would buy it.

I just don't like fighting dogs in games because they're always the hardest enemy. In RE4 on hard mode it probably takes 8 shotgun blasts to kill the big dogs. Well... those are the zombie dogs. Even in Demon's Souls the dogs might be easy to kill, but if a member of a pack gets a hit in, you're done. I think they're usually the hardest because the grapple, backstab, or other fighting mechanics - that my have worked on every other enemy type in the game - don't work on the dogs, so you have to resort to little jabs and running away. "
Don't think of them as 'cute' little dogs, think of them as horrific hell beasts trying to eat your face, works for me...

Strongly disagree. But price is everything.  Ever since i spend 50 euro on "The Phantom Menace" and finished it in 3 hours i rent first. "

It's one thing to want a certain amount of money to prescribe to a minimum amount of play time. It's another entirely to claim a game MUST prescribe to a minimum amount of playtime because it's a certain price. The former is subjective, the realm of opinion. The latter is objective, a claim NOT backed by evidence.

@phantomzxro said:

Come on your being a little unfair with your statement i hate when people bring this up, There is a thing as a game being to short because if a game was a min long and you had to pay 15 bucks for it, it would not make sense but say if you play it for free then it would be a cool concept. I don't think it have to be one way or the other there is a fine middle ground to a games length and how good it is.   Also ToV had fine gameplay i still liked abyss better in term of gameplay because the skill memory from weapons got a bit out of hand for me. I will agree with you on the dissappointing story but again too each his own i guess. "

I'm not being unfair in the slightest. I'm being *right*. You can hate when people bring up fact but that's counterproductive. There is no objective measure of game length to price. None. Zip. Zero. Zilch.

You can, personally, want a certain amount of playtime out of a given monetary investment. That's fine. To claim that a game must grant a certain amount of playtime is a claim not supported by the tenets of physical reality.

And Vesperia was trash, but just about any measure.
