Just started playing this on PC this week, so I haven't played Conquest mode yet. Definitely looks more boring than Arena, which I've been having fun with.

Thanks for the QL!

Wow that match went on forever. Also Brad's 1200 hours don't seem to have helped him understand the basic concepts much.

He hasn't played 1200 of Smite.

@amyggen: That's fair, but he was still not nailing down the basics of MOBAs in general. He didn't have good map control, for example. Which is way bigger in Dota than Smite, but still important. Case in point, multiple times there were enemies coming up behind him on the mini map and it got him killed.

That said, I don't fault him. Commentating on a game you are playing can be difficult.

I just want one game where you play as Jesus. He could have lightning, or be a medic, or both or something.

Watches teammates all on low health run past yelling retreat. Runs in and immediately dies. Blames teammates. Yeah, it's a MOBA.

Brad's great, but that part had me shaking my head in bewilderment.

@rethla: Jungler in Smite is a bit different than in other MOBAs. They tend to roam between the lanes and exp camps, supporting lanes that need help. Those buffs everyone was gathered around in the beginning are the first things everyone gets. They help each other get their respective buffs then move to their lanes. The Smite community, at least compared to League, isn't very toxic. You still get some asshole players but in my many matches I've only had a few in my game. Also helps that you can't talk to the opposing team during the match.

There's a lot to the game but it's not extremely stressful and the 3rd person perspective make things really interesting.

As someone who got a little into the Smite beta, watching Brad play and discuss Smite poorly is a bummer.

There are practically unlimited videos of professional MOBA players playing MOBAs on the internet. Seems like some of you should be watching those instead.

I started playing this during one of the betas on PC, my first and only game of this type, and still play it occasionally. I've always played it solo, and always have fun and do well. Understanding the team aspect and participating when it's important can help a lot, but you can absolutely have a good time on your own while contributing.

Brad at least showed some enthusiasm for what is actually a pretty decent game

Nice that they finally covered this. Played a ton of the PC version, the game is a lot of fun. If you're not a moba fan though it's not gonna swing you unless your main problem is the RTS part of it.

Brad did pretty alright for being new, I'd agree with him having played a bunch of League helped me get into the game.

Let's not kid ourselves though, PAX advertisements are few and repeating the same thing every 30 minutes gets tiresome really fast.

I've heard some good things about this, but I'll be damned if I ever play anything by Hi-Rez again. The way they just stop supporting previous games because the higher-ups have gotten bored with what they're doing is the worst.

it's not a matter of getting bored, dude

if a game isn't profitable there's no reason to keep dumping resources into it

smite's the first thing they've made that's actually made any money, so it's not going anywhere

I played Smite for a month or two on PC. Its pretty fun! Im a League of Legends guy though so wasnt good enough to pull me away from that long term. Controls looked a little wonky but Smite seems like it would prob be one of the better MoBAs to do on consoles.

I'm not talking active development here. I'm talking about things as basic as bugfixes and server maintenance. I'm talking about them just straight-up shutting down the Tribes forums with very little notice while the community scrambled to archive everything important on there.

As for the getting bored part, it was anonymous sources so yeah I took them with a grain of salt, but there was a lot of smack going around about the way Todd was running things back then.

I don't doubt Smite will continue because it's been so profitable, but that doesn't mean I want to support them considering how they've treated their customers in the past.

There's an RPG where you compose armies of mooks, Monster/Heroes, led by a God. I wonder if a 3rd tier between Creep and Heroes might be worked into a meaningful change to the standard MOBA gameplay.

I like Brad but I can't understand why he's so oblivious to his surrounding. Never played Smite but I have played enough LOL to know you need to look at the map to see where your the rest of your team are, where your enemies are and don't try to solo the whole team with a ranged DPS. And why does he try to jungle mid to late game?

He's lucky everybody are on a console, I can guarantee the guy who kept spamming "attack middle lane" would have raged HARD on a keyboard. Lol.

Playing a MOBA is like driving—it's all about awareness. It's important to continually check your mirrors / mini-map.

I imagine Brad was just distracted while playing by being asked questions and giving commentary, but he was really showing a lack of awareness.

I think the reason Dota players are more ok with silly speakers then silly characters could be that you can't force your silly speaker into the game of others, while your silly character will look silly in other players games.

I liked Super Monday Night Combat and Monday Night Combat, but the dev does a horrible jobkeeping communities going. I don't know why they never bothered to port SMNC to consoles.

Brad didn't help anyone on his team, lol. Also, complaining about team when not helping XD I'll just chalk it up to Brad not being able to talk and play, because it seemed like he was out of it for the whole match.

the movement seems really stilted to me...is that the game or Brad? Like turning was really cumbersome and clunky. Also, Brad's insistence not to use his super even to save himself and teammates ><

He also seems to be completely unaware of the minimap. His literally turning around to see if a teammate was behind me had me laughing.

Hunter class should be paired up with someone else, not solo'ing stuff :| >< He literally ran in when everyone was at 10% health, popped special, and then gets annoyed because no one stayed and helped. lol

"That's another weird thing, to me. Most of these games don't let you play the same character on both teams."

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the only moba that doesn't let you play the same character on both teams is DotA 2. LoL and HotS, the other 2 big names in the genre, do.
