@patrickklepek I think the game has 2 E's at the end? You might to update the title!

Hah! Somehow never noticed that. Thanks!

I'm sure you checked this out but "Naissance" means birth in French and if my High School level french is correct adding an extra "e" at the end makes it feminine which might tie into the female sounding protagonist you seem to inhabit but I might be completely off on the grammar.

You generally can't change the gender of a noun, unless it designs something animate that can be either male or female (like the words for teacher, friend or cat for instance), and naissance is already a feminine noun so that would be redundant anyway.

Ah well I thought I was onto something but my elementary level french fails me once again. Thanks for clearing it up though.

Reminds me a lot of the first person puzzle segments in Assassin's Creed Revelations. Looks interesting though, dig the atmosphere.

At the city part: it's sorta like we've stepped into Metropolis [1927]

Yeah, I felt the same. This game has a really striking look.

This game has quite the aesthetic allure but I definitely don't like annoying first person platform sequences. It's a tad discordant to me when you're gallivanting around in a surrealistic nightmare, exuberantly pondering empirical dilemmas and what this game all means, to suddenly utter a moan of pain followed by a cheesy blood vignette; as if hurt or dead, then you reset a few paces back. Videogames! But what is hell if not repetition? Maybe they're conveying some bleak version of the after life. Or even pre-life considering the title. Or maybe it's just an artsy game with no resolution in sight.

It's already stirring my imagination to no end so I guess I'll just have to play it.

Thanks Patrick!

I had a really vivid dream like this once.

It's hard to believe I wouldn't have known anything about this game if not for this video, it looks brilliant.

After seeing this quicklook getting posted I checked the screenshots on the Steam page went on to immediately buy the game. God these visuals are precisely up my alley. I thought I was keeping track of Steam releases but this went straight past me, so thanks Patrick for finding this for me!

After playing up to the part where this quick look ends I had similar feelings of being in an alien space, like a ship or planet. I specifically recalled the feelings I got from reading the Rama books by Arthur C. Clarke

This game has the most amazing sense of scale. This game with Oculus Rift is guaranteed for vertigo puking. Getting to see where you can go and where you've come from is so cool.

Really glad you showed this game off Patrick. This game really spoke to me and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since finishing it the other day. I hope you stick with it. The weird and creepy atmosphere persists throughout, and some of the sequences toward the end get real trippy.

How long did it take you? I'm, I dunno, almost three hours in? I made it through the sequence where the blocks rearrange themselves and you arrive at a platform across a big gap.

I'm at 7 hours at "Kids Toy" (titles in the saves) with the fan part (which was patched!) but mostly getting lost and taking in the surroundings. It's quite long, personally.

@jz: That's a shame dude. I understand if something compared to something you don't like would stop you from checking it out but I don't think the comparisons are strong. I see this game of more of a 3D platformer and a GOOD one at that. I think it has some first person atmosphere like Gone Home but that's where the similarities begin and end.

Wasn't this game showcased in one of the live shows? Or was that something else? I remember a monochromatic game with a ton of glitchy shit happening on the screen.

Patrick, if you dig that "why would this even be built and who built it' feeling from that surreal architecture you might find the setting of the obscure 90's scifi manga "Blame!" pretty cool... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blame!#Setting

The City is an endless vertical space of artificially-constructed walls, stairways and caverns, separated into massive "floors" by nearly-impenetrable barriers known as "Megastructure". The Net Terminal Genes appear to be the key to halting the unhindered, chaotic expansion of the Megastructure. The City is actually a structure that began on Earth. The mechanical beings known as Builders, which move around reforming and creating new landscapes, appear to have begun building without end, creating an enormous structure with little internal logic or coherence.

In regards to the scale of the structure, NOiSE, the prequel to Blame!, states in its final chapter that "At one point even the Moon, which used to be up in the sky above, was integrated into The City's structure". It has been suggested by Tsutomu Nihei himself in his artbook Blame! and So On that the scale of The City is beyond that of a Dyson sphere, reaching Jupiter's planetary orbit (32.675 AU, or roughly 4,901,250,000 km); this is also suggested in scenarios such as Blame! vol. 9, where Killy finds himself having to travel through a room roughly the size of Jupiter (roughly 143,000 km.)

This game does have a 2001, or THX 1138 feel. Think I'll check it out. Reminds me a lot of Kairo.

Ha, that subtle difficultly tweak during the sprinting platform jumping was great. You could hear and barely see an extra set of platforms slide out.

That breathing while sprinting mechanic is also pretty neat.

Not a criticism, but the architecture in most of this reminds me a whole lot of the caves in Minecraft. So much of the first half of the video just bringing me back to my days of exploring cave systems, so many of the structures look just like that.

That's the first thing that came to mind as well (which is why I clicked the video)! I love the atmosphere of the caves in Minecraft.

Yeah! I fucking love Blame!, pretty much the only manga I've ever gotten into. I really love the visual style of that city, and, yeah, it's certainly pretty similar to this (though it is somewhat of a trope in cyberpunk literature).

Agreeing with the people that said this reminds them of House of Leaves.

The part where Patrick basically said "it feels like you're being hunted, even though there's no reason you should think that" made me think of that book exactly.

What a cool book.

Yup gotta agree. The audio, visuals and atmosphere are incredible. The platforming is a bit of a bastard though.
