Quick Look: Spelunky

They have no grasp of how deep this game really is, yet! Guys, as one who played the PC version for a long time, let me tell you've you haven't even scratched the surface!

Breaking Brad Spelunky needs to happen.

I loved how Jeff just kept climbing up the robe in deathmatch. Always play to win.

Man I was about to request Spelunky TNT, but I don't know if it could really sustain that level of humor for 90+ minutes.

Seems pretty rad, I'll check out the trial for sure.

This game looks pretty neat, might check it out.

This new XBLA release is basically an "enhanced edition." New graphics, several gameplay tweaks and adds multiplayer.

ITT: Giant Bomb learns that not all games have extremely simple mechanics you can learn in 5 minutes.

In all seriousness, this game is pretty great, it's just funny to hear Brad and Patrick talk about how there's SO MUCH STUFF etc.

I wasn't quite on board until the death match and Jeff's class on truly great Spelunkying.

I'm diggin the 4 player mode in this even more than New Super Mario Bros Wii

I was super excited to see GB's enthusiasm over Spelunky since I've loved the PC version for a long time. Deathmatch was great, and Jeff is extra great.

This Quick Look is hilarious and this game looks awesome. Powerful combo.

I like how they weren't quite sure about the amount of sheer bomb spamming chaos was in the deathmatch mode, but not once did they even consider toning down the amount of bombs each player has. That's just not something they want to think about.

It's not quite as fair as Spelunky I'd say, but it's still really good. A game that gives a great feeling of tension.

This game looks great. I'm liking the idea of co-op in it, depending on whether or not you had an understanding of sorts with your teammates.

As a viewer I am much more interested in watching this on TNT this week as opposed to Phantasy Star Online 2. The best TNTs lately have been with local multiplayer and chaos definitely helps.

Oh! Also, I don't know if Brad & Co picked up on it during this game, or if this is even something that carries over from the pc version at all, but you can walk through spikes, you just can't land on them.

I've been pretty curious about how that was going to work with the new version. In older versions of the pc original you could drop onto spikes as long as you fell less than two blocks' distance. This made those nasty vine jumping areas in the jungle a lot easier to handle as you could flip down from the edge and drop into the spike pits to get through them. I think it was version 1.0 where that was no longer allowed, and I havn't made it through the jungle since :) Catching vines or ropes mid-jump was really finicky in the original :P

Yeah man, the jungle is stupid difficult now that you can't drop into the spike pits! I can see how it makes those levels pretty easy if you can do that, but now that you can't I feel like there needs to be less spike pits to balance it out.

Great QL, really entertaining. Could really do with more Premium content - an extended session of this would really hit the spot. Providing Jeff, Patrick and Brad were present, of course!

So I aliased "Uncooperative Multiplayer" to the Griefing concept. Didn't seem worth a new page sadly.

Yess, I fucking love Spelunky and I love how it's getting precisely the right reaction from the guys. Equal parts of "this game is amazing" and "FUCK THIS GAME". First second purchase when it comes out.

I played like, 100 instances of this game before I got into the 3rd world consistently, on the freeware version. This game is awesome (only played the freeware version), so please give it a chance.

This game looks amazing...also, THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN BRAD'S UTTER DEATH SCREAM. Love it.

I'll probably end up spending all Independence Day playing this and only get to 1-3, LOL. I cannot wait.

If it's anything like the PC version, if you anger one shop keeper, you anger ALL shopkeepers.

Fuck it, Day one buy.

I knew what he meant with that half a second sentence. Had he not used that term, I wouldn't have grasped it immediately and he would have needed to say "in this game a number of elements are randomized and there is permadeath as well while you upgrade your character the longer you survive in one of your runs". Which he explained later.

Kinda glad he went with the simile.

Man, nothing more annoying that a nitpicking nerd. I know because I am one.
