Never played Harvest Moon but man, this game looks good.

Crikey, there's so much more to this game than I realized, might get it on Steam later.

As someone who never played Animal Crosssing OR Harvest Moon, I found a lot of things in this game frustrating at first. I started out treating it like a Sim game and was looking for immediate efficiency. I'd grumble every time I went to town and found stores closed or citizens locked away in their rooms where I couldn't talk to them. I'd play for a couple in-game days, find out some new piece of information, feel like I had screwed something up, then start all over again, making it a little further each time.

Somewhere along the line, I just stopped caring about total efficiency or trying to plan out a whole year's schedule without all the information. I decided I didn't want to look up FAQs online, compare my game to other people who had played for longer, or any of that jazz. And now I'm totally addicted, taking things one day at a time with Special Agent Jackson.

I'd still like a LITTLE more information surfaced. For example, there's a Scarecrow that keeps pests away from your crops, but it doesn't say anything about how many you need per crop or whatever. In reality, it covers a huge surface area, so one scarecrow can handle an entire field by itself, but (as far as I can tell) you wouldn't know unless you look it up online. Little things like that would be great.

So it's Rune Factory with the fishing minigame from Breath of Fire 3? Alright, I might play it.

This seems cool, though I think the main font kind of needs work.

I'd rather play StarDrew Valley. Hell I'd even prefer... BarDrew Alley.

Ambitious game. It's insane that anyone was able to cram so much stuff and so many systems into a game.

My last Harvest Moon was on the GBA, and it feels great finally to be able to walk through my crops here and water the ones in the middle.

I think you maybe missed it because the game definitely tells you when you first get the scarecrow recipe that they cover 8 square radius around them.

Great Quicklook. I think sometimes I'm more fascinated with the way Dan reacts to games than the games themselves. This game does look great though. Time to put it on my steam wishlist.

I'd watch this video but I gotta get more ore and make more sprinklers and create the ultimate automated robot farm, and then go give some gems to this lady I like who I'm pretty sure is eating them??

Dan, if you have the copper Watering Can, you can hold down the button to water 3 squares at the same time. It's not expensive either.

ALSO USE FERTILIZER!

Also, Penny is neutral on clams. Give her Sweet Pea (lots in the fall) ,Leeks (Spring) and Dandelions

Also Robin and Leah are different people.

The first sprinkler kinda sucks.

Oh wow I've been waiting almost 15 years for someone to re-capture the magic of Friends of mineral town cuz harvest moon sure as shit couldn't.

I just wish the art was less crude.

I was super confused about the weird church thing in the back of the store, too. I was thinking of relationshiping with Abigail because she has purple hair and my dude has bright green hair so it seems like they would be a perfect match. But I'm not sure about getting with someone who has a weird creepy church thing in their house.

Dan, I highly recommend that you try some of the old Harvest Moon games, just to see how similar Stardew Valley really is. Harvest Moon 64 is my favorite one, even though it lacks endless progression like most of the later entries in the franchise.

For people who haven't played Harvest Moon. This game is Harvest Moon + combat or Rune Factory - fantasy. That's a good thing.

I kind of want to play this game but I dont really know if I want to play this game ... It seems overwhelming

I was just watching someone play this on Twitch TV and next thing I know it's 2:30 in the morning. If this game ever comes out for PS4 it's going to be very bad for my sleep schedule.

@mattyftm: actually they explain that, Catherine says that it was built by the former owners and they themselves are not overly religious but they just let it stay there for the community to use.

Yep, I even bought it because my daughter loves this kind of game. (Although she got put off when she feel asleep from fatigue and had to pay 50g for someone to bring her home.) But I've been putting off starting my farm, because I know it will be an addiction I can't handle.

Today we learned that Dan really, REALLY would have liked Harvest Moon.

Oh man I could see how addictive this could get, this would destroy me but I'm glad it exists!

As a long-time fan of the Harvest Moon games, I'm having more fun with this than Story of Seasons. This is clearly a lovingly crafted passion project made by fans of Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing. All the little improvements they made to the basic formula just make it much more engaging than the original.

Edit: Dan, this game is MOSTLY Harvest Moon with some AC sprinkled in. XD

I played this for 7 hours straight the first day I bought it. I like this game a lot.

This was a valuable examination for me because I think it's convinced me not to purchase it. I was really close to picking it up based on the hype alone, but look what it does to people showing off the game--"This thing, no wait this thing, no wait this thing!"

Instead of the sort of "productivity engine" that some games excel at, this looks like a series of distractions interrupting each other. Does that make sense? Is that too harsh? Something's really rubbing me the wrong way.

That said, I have a soft spot for fishing minigames (no idea why) and this looks like some top shelf fishing minigame.

Edit: Not trying to be a negative nelly. I'm fascinated by what I don't understand, and this is no exception.
