Man, this game is cool

If you're even remotely interested in this game, just get it and don't watch any footage, especially this quick look.

It's one of the best games I've played in years and that was mainly down to knowing nothing about it and discovering everything through playing it. It's got a really cool story that unfolds.

I want to watch vinny play through all of this game.

This game is really fantastic.

wow. They spoil about the only thing in the game that can be spoiled. They should put up a warning.

Does anyone know, if the Xbox version is any good?

Yeah, I stopped watching once they got to the way point because I figured as much.

I'll say, after that old Unfinished, I wouldn't have expected this video to involve exploring a Forerunner base.

Now I just wanna play Critical Depth, which had all sorts of crazy alien shit hiding under the sea.

This game is awesome - and if you have any interest go get it and stop watching. So much fun discovering things and building things. I played about 70 hours before I “beat it” - and I could still play more if I wanted.

There is an ending to this game - you actually see credits. It's a bit obscure with telling you where to go next but the whole thing ties really nicely at the end.

I picked this up and was having a hell of a time in the beginning. It felt like I could never have enough oxygen and I didn't even get to the base building stuff. I even watched some YouTube videos and was just lost on what the best path for researching items and progress was. It didn't help it took like 20 minutes to get one piece of metal.

Any up to date wiki or information people can suggest? the one I was using was from older builds and was a wild goose chase for items that weren't in the same state as final release. I guess it's a game for the more patient than myself.

I'd buy this game if it had an Alex and Vinny commentary track.

Either that or they fix this mechanism in which you need to eat and drink every 5 minutes and batteries last minutes. I wonder how many people actually like those systems. To me it just seems annoying. Sure, a survival game needs to include some resource management but dying when you don't drink and eat constantly is just silly.

@steveurkel: I was in the same situation as you. Couldn't figure out the best paths towards anything and found resources to be tricky to gather. Which made the base building rather frustrating. However after I while I started to find and remember area which had plenty of what I needed. Once that happened everything picked up speed massively. I'd stick with it just a bit longer :)

Anyone else hoping they would run into a Reaper in their Seamoth?

@steveurkel: A lot of the progression is tech that let's you go to places that have more tech.

Once you have the Repair Tool, repair the Radio. You'll get messages that point you to other crashed pods that hold blueprints and/or damaged gear. Also the pods are in areas that have other places that you should explore, which hold blueprints and damaged gear. And so on.

"This'll get folks over their thalassophobia."

As someone who recently finished subnautica and managed to find this stuff myself. I started the QL and saw the timer and shouted, "VINNY!" yo myself. This is THE plot twist in the game.

Yes, this quick look kind of shows some of the bigger spoilers in the game. However, I like the fact that we see Vinny and Alex experiencing the reveal.

@cheebahh: I agree. This game has some serious hooks in me.

@tomba_be: There's a "Freedom Mode" where you don't need to worry about food and water, which is what I'm playing as I don't particularity like these types of survival mechanics in games. There's also a "Creative Mode" where you don't have to worry about any resource management at all, and you can instead just explore and build your base freely. However, there's no story mode if you go down the Creative route.

So there's definitely options.

I have this on my Oculus and it looks amazing. I just don't know if survival games are my thing.

This phantom quick look is fascinating.

It never happened, there was an unfinished and beastcast talk and that has melded together to create magic.

The quick look had dan and vinny in it and was on the front page on the site. I haven't watched the unfinished since the unfinished came out and don't remember anything from it.

Not wanting to support a game or its development team because they have really bad views (and I'm saying views because calling the kinds of racism, misogyny and transphobia that the edgelord dude that got fired engaged in "opinions" implies that there's a validity or credence to them that, if you use that word, makes you suspect af) is a completely valid thing and is the entire point of "voting with your dollars" that y'all constantly talk about. (Granted I know that a lot of people who say that also have an unstated part of "vote with your dollar but shut the fuck up about it because I don't want to hear it," but whatever.) You should be supportive of people who feel morally obliged not to support something on those grounds, not dismissive. With that said:

One of my favorite games in years. It's a gorgeous Metroidvania with survival elements and as a thalassophobe it's also one of the most brutal terror experiences I've gone through. It's delicious.

Was frustrating to hear Vinny complain about not knowing how shit works, when the entire game is about figuring out how shit works. The game is about managing the unknown. If you can't find gold, then maybe you explore until you find some, and then you drop a beacon so you can come back for more, and then you realize maybe gold turns up in certain kinds of areas. You build an intuitive understanding for the world and it feels fantastic, I think.

Also, build a scanning room, hey.

Anyone else find it kinda funny that Vinny has clearly been to land before because he has the trees planted in his base and the alien tablet? And even funnier that he didn't realize that you can eat the trees for H20 and food, which would have prevented him from dying in the defense platform? Fun quick look either way though.
