As an actual surgeon, this entire video is insane and beyond hilarious. I'm going to have to buy and stream this game so I can narrate from a surgeon's perspective.

Thing about this game is it just reminds me of how brutal real surgeons are. I have seen all sorts of surgeon shows on television and seen how they are just super rough with your body -- especially for any cosmetic type surgery - to the point that I am frightened of ever having a surgery. So watching this game just... ugh. It just makes me shudder.

What you say is somewhat true, but there is also a lot of finesse in the things we do (especially when dealing with miniscule blood vessels and cosmetically sensitive areas). On the other hand, the human body is unbelievably tough and you actually have to use some serious force when retracting or dissecting in certain circumstances.

Yes, it's possible to do. You don't have to put the person together afterwards, you only need to remove the old heart and put the new one in there. I think they actually managed to do that when they originally played this (the old PC version) on Unprofessional Fridays a year or so ago. I'm pretty sure they've actually played a little of the ambulance scenario.

Performing surgery with only one hand would probably be real hard even if you were properly trained.

@branthog: Errm, congrats on losing a bunch of (presumably) unhealthy weight. Sorry about the nightmares.

Is it possible to actually use the controls of this game? Thus far, I have only seen complete fuck ups.

@godlyawesomeguy: Yes. Or, i dunno about console controls. But yes for PC version of the game. Here's a speed run. The game always looks sloppy as you'll see in the video, but it also isn't asking for a great deal of precision to achieve success either. Your goal is essentially to just rip everything out and toss in the replacement organ. Done and done. A++.

Shit, this was good to just let me know that new surgeries are out for the PC version. I cleaned that game out and was a great pleasant surprise game for me. For as hard as it looks, it was actually really effective once you got it. I can't speak to the console controls but I got pretty good at the game by the end.

"He's going to bleed out...we need to use the hammer!"

I think I would buy that on a t-shirt.

This was a really great Quick Look. The deadpan humor really works well with the implausible inanity onscreen.

The controls in the console version are about as bad as to be expected. In the PC version, once you get past the very wonky physics the controls do start to make some sense, and it's actually a very enjoyable game. Monty Python meets Operation is the best way to think about it.

Brad and Drew were still ages from completing surgery; they hadn't even cut the ventricles.

@brad Shocked at hearing the first part of this, go see Spies Like Us (and the first Airplane!) for some of the better written/acted comedies from the 1980s. Great QL & was curious about this version though still scared of trying this with the controller.

The sound of an alarm clock being dragged along an exposed rib cage is my new favorite thing ever.
