Quick Look: Tecmo Bowl Throwback

Are you ready for some throwback football?

Tecmo Bowl is to football games what RBI Baseball is to baseball games.

This is a cool idea, but the "throwback" mode looks nothing like I remember. Did they use the Sega version or something? I only played TSB on the NES so this looks like a totally different game with a multi-colored field and no flashing sprites. With emulators and even flash versions, I doubt I'll be picking this up. The 2D/3D concept is awesome, though.

Super was better because they actually had NFL team and player names.  When you were 10 it mattered.

Oh, Jeff, you big baby. Tecmo Super Bowl is just as fun as the original Tecmo Bowl. And for the record, you can still throw insane field-long passes in Tecmo Super Bowl.

Jeff, sounded like you really hated this game.  haha  My question for you is this:  Would you rather play Tecmo Super Bowl Throwback or Blood Bowl?  hmm?  I thought so...

Nice quick look, though Jeff's indifference was a bit of a downer. I'm a fan of the original, remember playing that with my dad and older brother on the NES so long ago ... but Super Bowl doesn't seem like a bad game, never had a chance to play it.
 
I was a bit disappointed that Ryan stuck to watching, though. This game begs to be played with another person.

My brother and I used to play the shit out some TSB, clearly Jeff missed out on the awesomeness that was TSB. Bye-bye ten dollars.

Wow, Jeff is really bad at this game!  I gave him a few minutes for his learning curve to kick in, but this is painful to watch.  My seven year old self would have kicked his a$$...

Fumble on opening kickoff and 70 yard return? Yes, this is truly a faithful Tecmo Bowl recreation.

Sold. Tecmo Super Bowl was badass, and don't listen to Jeff, it's barely any different than the original Tecmo Bowl, he just apparently didn't notice the original games friggin features.

There is really nothing interesting about this.

It seems janky in the same ways the original was. So in that way it's true to the original. 
 
Then again, Mega Man 9 was very faithful to the source material, and in that case being accurate to the original made it extremely difficult to enjoy.

I like the looks of this game, need to kill some time or just one some quick fun, this looks to be the game.

i dont get the rules on these football games . and the help usualy doesnt help much . so i end up running around with the ball not knowing what i do right or wrong . shame.....

Tecmo super bowl has a bow in her hair. 

 It was rough watching this and listening to Jeff and Ryan talk about my beloved Tecmo Super Bowl.  This is actually a port of the 16-bit SNES/Genesis game, which was released with the 1993 NFL rosters.  In my opinion, the 16-bit version was inferior to the 8-bit NES game which was released two years earlier, and also inferior to the 16-bit Tecmo Super Bowl III: Final Edition game released in 1995.  There was a Tecmo Super Bowl II, but I didn't play enough of it to form an opinion.  Also, you have to tap the "A" button (Xbox 360) to break tackles.

Very simple, which may be good or bad depending on how much you know about football. I'd consider buying this.
