Quick Look: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

I have absolutely no fondness for TMNT, so I already wasn't interested in this, but man does this ever seem terrible. 0/4 games did anything for me for this Summer of Arcade (though I can at least respect Charlie Murder and Brothers). Major control delay is one of the worst things for me in games though, it totally ruined Most Wanted 2012 on PC for me, which otherwise seemed like a pretty cool game.

This looks terrible...but it makes me want to play Batmna AC again, so it has that going for it.

Why does Donatello look like Slender Man?

They remind me of the baby from Eraserhead.

I'm not one to complain about framerate dips quite so much, I can put up with them, but this opening segment has me recoiling in horror. When you can wring that reaction out of a filthy console gamer who has grown used to putting up with sub-standard framerates as the gen has worn on you've really achieved something special.

Man, I hope when next gen comes around and new games are exciting Quick Looks will be entertaining again.

Yea. There doesn't need to be an external deadline to rush something out the door. I would think a studio has this much capital to spend which translates in this much people to hire for this long, and the producer/project manager will have a plan laid out as to when to reach milestones, and when the time is up, unless they are the type of studios that can drag things on and have an endless pool of capital, most studios just have to release.

It's obviously more nuanced than that, but the principle remains. It's that classic balance of time, money and quality/scope (faster, cheaper, better). You want fast and cheap, it'll likely be poor quality (rush it). You want cheaper and better, it'll take a while (work on a skeleton crew). You want better and faster, it'll cost you (throw an army of qualified people at it). Time is not the only variable to consider. Also the people working on a project obviously matter; a bunch of 50 rookies for a year vs. a bunch of 50 veterans for a year will not produce the same results; the rookies will be busy learning and making mistakes, and the veteran will just work like clockwork and avoid mistakes and re-work.

I don't enough about specific devs to make a judgement call on why this looks like poop.

It may have the turtle power song but this isn't like the turtles of old and man the look of the turtles is ugly and unsettling, why didn't they just make a game based off the new show?

The art in the comic strips really looking badly done, they should have not done that in house and gone with a real comic book company.

Why can't some just hire some of those probably retired game designers from the early 90's that did those classic Konami beat'em ups like the 2 Ninja Turtles games of that decade and just pay them to do a classic old school 4 player Ninja Turles game in the style of the old games. That would be worth highlighting in the summer game line up. This looks pathetic.

The way that camera pans around their lair is giving me Ripper flashbacks.

Don't really get how they kinda based this off the new show, but then went with their own style (assuming to be more toward the movie). The comic style in the TV show is incredible.

If it's the voice actress from the new TMNT show on Nick, it's the girl that played Ann Veal from Arrested Development Mae Whitman.

Completely accidental, but I just sat down to eat some pizza and was looking for something to watch and realized I never watched this QL. Reminded me like when I was a kid and anytime we had pizza for supper I HAD TO watch one of the ninja turtle movies when I ate it. HAD TO! It was unthinkable to my kid brain to eat a pizza and not watch one of them.

The game looks like poop though. It's a weird mish mash of the new cartoon, which is actually really good and I suggest anyone that liked the turtles to watch it, and their own fuglyness. I especially hate the design of the turtles in both the 2D and 3D parts. They look so f-ing weird.

Guess this is just another game with an awesome franchise that should make an awesome game being given to bad devs. It's rather sad how often that happens.

To call this a lazy game would be generous because it seems like they went out of their way to be offensively bad. I am a believer that even a lot of bad games may have a kernel somewhere though minor that may be that is decent, but I honestly cant say anything positive from what I just saw. The combat looks clumsy, the environment and textures look like a mess, the camera and framerate get in the way, and worst of all the art design of the characters look horrible enough to make me feel uncomfortable just looking at them. For a game that seems to be hinged on selling nostalgia, it really looks like they decided on a calculated effort to mutilate childhood memories.

I just feel bad for some of the devs working on it because I am sure they knew they were working on a turd

My guess is they started working on this game as an independent turtles project, but when the show got popular they incorporated the show into the game.

I was hoping for a non kids tv show based turtles game full of blood and violence, like the turtles should be.

Listening to this one video / theme gave me far more fun and entertainment than the whole of the game shown in thiis quick look ever will. The themet

Not to be sexist, but why does April O'Neil have cosplay goth boots and a fat ass? Everything about this game and style is worse than hot garbage... hot puke? Hot shit? I dunno.
