Quick Look: The Real Texas

That is an indie-ass indie game, and I don't necessarily mean that in a derogative sense.

It wasn't until the combat music hit that I'm reminded of what it looks like, Katamari Damacy. That, or Minecraft. I'm mildly intrigued by it all.

I wonder how many people got the I aten't dead reference.

Being from South Texas I find the cowboy stereotype highly offensive. Haven't seen a cowboy hat in years down here.

So I translated the runes. There are no spoliers in the spoiler block.

There was something wrong with my frozen pizza. Like, the dough was partially wrapped around the cardboard, as if it had gotten hot, melted, then froze again. When I cooked it, the dough wouldn't rise, and it didn't taste even remotely done until I'd cooked it so long the cheese burnt.

Theorizing based on my own experiences as a kid, I'll guess that his first exposure to runes was via the Hobbit. I worked out the hobbit runes alphabet and messed around with reading and writing them when I was around 7 or 8. It wasn't until a bit later that I even knew about the vikings, Norse mythology, or any of that stuff. To this day, for better or worse, I think of Tolkien when I think of runes, especially in fantasy fiction or video games.

I remember seeing the Dire Straits "Money for Nothing" music video as a kid when I was home sick with a bad fever. This game reminds me of how I felt that day.

A week for Quick Looks of bizarre games, evidently.

Well your Quick Look literally sold me on this game.....even if the graphics don't look to good. Looks like there is a lot of world to explore in this game, so not so bad for 8 bucks I thought. (Yeah, the sale he has going on right now also helped sell me on it.)

I'm getting a weirdly nostalgic vibe from this game.

That walk animation is fantastic.

Less than five minutes in. Sold.

Very charming stuff. Excentric seems like a pretty apt description. Of course it's a little hard to tell if the gameplay is all that worthwhile. But I'm not even a huge Zelda fan to begin with and the game still looks like it has potential. What a generally weird but wonderful day in terms of Quick Looks. And it's all going to end with Dwarf Fortress!

Well, this definitely seems many times more interesting than Skyrim...

This strikes me as a game that Eric Wolpaw would enjoy.

Is this made with voxels? It sure shares a lot of sound effects with Voxatron

The music that started when they get to Strange Texas really reminded me of a specific piece of music from Chrono Trigger, but I can't remember it. Anyone else hear it?

Umm. What's the tune that plays at around 16:20? I could swear I've heard that music in another game... VERY recently. Like, SUPER recently.

As someone who inhabits the real Texas, I can 100% confirm this game's authenticity, right down to the victory chimes and talking horses.

This looks quite interesting, I'll have to pick it up soon when I'm finished doing some other games.

I enjoy tired, focused, un-"snarky bastard" Patrick. Quite a bit. Brad did a great job here too. I am happy at this.

This game looks crazy. Looks like the kind of crazy, low-tech 3D game that the Japanese sometime made during the PSX era. Like LSD, or Tail of the Sun.

Getting a real Cubivore vibe from this. Kinda.
