I hate how negative some people get about The Sims, it's simply a resource management game based on the day to day workings of life with a layer of cartoony wackiness, there's nothing about that which should rub anyone the wrong way, other than maybe because it's something their sister might play so they're too much of a beefcake to play "dollhouse simulator".
A complaint i hear all the time is that "it doesn't end", you could go bankrupt if you get it all wrong, your sim could die due to poor maintenance of the house or themselves, your sims will become old and expire, whether you want to continue that family tree is up to you, there are plenty of endings but what you want to achieve by the end is up to you.

My first sim is my character from Saints Row 3/4, trying to start her life anew without killing anyone, my next might be Patrick Stewart.

For me its not the game it self, its how EA sells/markets/distributes it and its countless rehash expansions.

It still looks like the same frustrating experience from the last time I played the sims, which was the first. It was fun until the game started and I wasn't designing/furnishing a house. Not for me I guess.

Well people should complain about that for pretty much every EA game, they all do it in their own ways.

The "pointless" argument doesn't make sense when you consider that in 3, between the skills and various aspiration objectives, it was basically an RPG. You'd perform tasks to complete quests, hunt for items, do side tasks in your day job and other things to propel your sim forward. There ends up being alot to do. And with 4 out, you can bet 3 and all the expansions will soon be on sale for wayyy cheaper than before.

This would have been great with Jeff and Vinny. I think Vinny would have gotten super into the role-playing Jeff was doing.
