Quick Look: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (360)

It looks like they ran the whole game through a grey-filter.  The PC version feels much more colorful.

I'm gonna want to buy this aren't I - damn.

Are you overclocking your CPU? If so, try turning it back down to factory settings. Maybe it'll perform in a more stable way.

No, this game just suffers from really bad pop-in. The fps is decent, except in some cutscenes.

And regardless of my set up, a 460m will not provide ideal results, and IF it attempted it would cause your laptop a shit ton of heat. Heat is not good for any of your components, and you'd be shortening the lifespan for your own equipment. Get the xbox version.

I think you're doing something wrong.

This game has major pop-in issues and frame rate issues in cut-scenes.

Completed this the other day and it is such a fantastic game. As Vinny said, I really hope this sells well. I did read that it was number 1 on the UK sales chart this week but does anybody know how well the 360 version is doing sales wise? Also, how did PC sales do?

To this day, my first thought when opening the skill wheel is that "Igni" is a fire spell.

Yea... he seems to treat QL's more like reviews. I love Patrick's writing, but I watch the quick looks to just laugh at the hysterical shenanigans they get into while playing games, not hear a review. Oh well...

I'm really curious to see how this will sell. I already have the PC version, and it is fantastic.

Having played this on a beefy PC, I feel like when people talk about a great looking game on the Wii.

"This looks really good for a 360 game."

Still glad to see it offered on another platform, hopefully more people will be able to enjoy it.

Dude, these graphics are good. It's just that the Witcher 2 on PC is one of the most impressive looking games of 2011. Compared to PC it's bad, but compared to everything else, they're fantastic.

So... is this on PS3?

The Witcher 2 is a fucking beast of a game and if you like what you've seen definitely pick this shit up, you won't be disappointed. I hope the sales do well for CDpro Red. More witcher is always a good thing.

To be honest guys, this happens with mostly with games that suck and can be funny. Check out quick looks for amazing games or games they are really into that don't have shenanigans built in. Skyrim and Trials are good games that have crazy shit happen. But then you have a game like this or Legend of Grimrock, it is harder to get those laughs. Even that Blood Forge game, though bad, it was just awful to watch something that bad.

I played the PC version before but this version still looks really good. Honestly I think dialed-back bloom is a good thing, sometimes those effects go a little overboard.

Definitely a game to play with a pad too.

I still prefer that to Ryan, who will instead just flatout say things without a hint of doubt in his voice or phrasing, and those things are wildly inaccurate or absolutely wrong.

Jeff, Brad, Vinny, and Patrick will all occasionally say something and admit right afterwards that they could be mistaken, but I get the impression that Ryan is deathly afraid of appearing to be unsure of something he is talking about.

They've done like 3 or 4 Quick Looks of DBZ games if you look through the archives. However, you're right in that he doesn't actively watch anime anymore. I'm guessing maybe he watched a bunch of Fist of the North Star and DBZ during college or something, and it's his only anime frame of reference, so those 2 shows are the only ones I think I've ever seen him make reference to. But yeah, as somebody else pointed out, if you watch that Fist of the North Star Quick Look, Vinny has clearly seen at least some of that show.

The Witcher was an amazing game. I really hope it gets some love on the 360, these guys need to be making more games!

but they were successful. it plays great with both. i prefered the controller personnaly. i found it suited the sword fighting combo's better. but the KB/M worked great to.

I found that the game on PC played much better with a controller, with the exception to one very annoying detail that I couldn't overlook.. looting.

Looting with a controller on PC was restricted to TAKE EVERYTHING, and you have to manage weight enough in this game as is.

I still think you're both crazy, I tried it and it was all right. But on the hardest difficulty it was just way too slow (when using the magic wheel etc).

i found the combat way more fun with the controller. nice to have the choice though i guess.

Why is some of the interface different for my version? There are no numbers/timer next to de/buffs and it doesn't tell me what I might be picking up when hovering over a corpse :/ Is there something I missed in the options?

It looks very low res in comparison, otherwise totally fine. I played it with a controller and thought the combat system worked much better, with everything else (looting, UI etc) worked much worse.

Witcher 2 was amazing, but one part left me cold: Dandelion and Geralt both boned the succubus in my game, but there was no dialog option to high five.

Man, the sound of those harpies. It reminds me of my wife!

I'd be more interested in this game as a fantasy RPG if it wasn't so foul...but I guess that's part of its appeal to some people.

Whatever. I've still got lots of Skyrim and Dark Souls to play.

Good to know the port came out well. More people need to play The Witcher 2!

Already seems to be off to a good start as it came in at number 1 in the UK charts but they don't track digital sales so it's hard to say how well the Witcher 2 did when it came out on PC last year as it came in at number 5.

I'm glad 360 owners can experience this wonderful game. It definitely deserves more exposure to the masses.

I played this version on a convention floor after watching some dudes bash their head against a fight for 15 minutes straight and cleared the same fight instantly. Don't know if that says something about me, or about them.

Great to see that this is a well-made port. I hope it sells reasonably well.

I think it's intended the way it is and it's fine that way. Because one of the things that makes the Witcher games great is that there is barely any handholding going on. The player is required to actually pay attention and think about what he's doing and where he is going.

The games quests are not "grind"quality types where you just have 12+ quests and follow from waypoint to waypoint to grind your way trough. Many quests reward you with usefull tactical knowledge if you pay attention to the quest description and prepare accordingly before moving out. This whole concept is also deeply rooted in the books afaik. Witchers in general value knowledge over blunt power, because they use knowledge as power.

Personaly i enjoyed that part the most about the Witcher games, having a quest that involves some kind of new monster and doing intel on the monster to figure out what to expect and bring along to the fight. It's stuff like this that makes the Witcher world feel so alive and deep.
