Quick Look: The Witcher

Trying to get through this game myself, but some of the dialogue is just so awkwardly put together, especially if you're used to the sublime work of Witcher 2

Why do some of the pc quicklooks have constant screen tearing in cinematics?  I think I remember it being in Dragon Age 2 as well.  Is it on my end somehow?

@JimmyRedd: it is their capture. They can't turn on vsync as far as I know and the capture process has issues of it's own with tearing. I've never minded too much.

Yes holy crap yes. Once I figured you can do that without much worry, the swamps were much more manageable.

Excellent QL guys! Very good choice to revisit this game. The Witcher is quite dense for sure but it's totally worth spending the time and figuring out all of the systems. I love this game for its complexity, story and weird scenario. Absolutely one of the best RPGs from recent years in my opinion.

Look I'm really not one of those users who cries "endurance run!" every single time you guys look at a weird game. I typically have too much respect for what you guys do to goad you into such a tasteless endeavor. But come the fuck on! This charade of Vinny completing this in his spare time has gone on long enough and he should've bit the bullet weeks ago on a new video series. I probably will never end up playing this game in my life despite how interesting it looks and I would have loved to see how in the hell this story wraps up or what sort of side quest hijinks there are. Oh well it's not a big deal and for all I know there are hundreds of hours to this game of young Vincent just hording supplies. Fantastic quick look all things considered. Keep up the great work!

Man, I restarted a playthrough 2 months ago and the SAME thing I did last time I did again. Get to the first town and months later realize I've stopped playing the Witcher. All the while Witcher 2 is in my collection just reminding me of my failures.

I had screen tearing when it was just normal, but on Full Screen, it was fine but I think Flash on my computer runs weird. I get low frame rates whenever a video isn't full screen.

So monsters are spawn from acts of evil?  A rooster sleeping with a rooster spawns a monster?  Yay, blatant homophobia!

Oh Vinny. Hurry up and finish this so you can have head blown away by the greatness of The Witcher 2. I can't wait to listen to the bombcast when Vinny actually starts playing The Witcher 2.

vinny should just play this at work.  I mean if he's 20 hours in and only up to this part of the story, it's gonna be at least another 40hours before he finishes :) 
 
Also it's disappointing to hear that Ryan won't go back and finish the Witcher 2.   July was a prime month of no real releases where they could have finished the game.  Unfortunate it won't be considered for any game of the year awards from Giantbomb.

Anyone else put off by the scale of this game? I can put in 100+ hours in fallout cause i know how big it is and I can look at every nook and cranny but with this type of game I feel I cant play how I would like to.

I find The Witcher (which I own through Steam) really too hardcore to be fun. A lot of the changes they made with Witcher 2 have me excited in terms of it being more accessible. However, I also heard you can get pretty lost if you never finished 1's story. I mainly just want to book the hell through it for the main story plot so I can enjoy 2 fully. Of course I keep getting stuck in like Chapter 2.

finished this game earlier this year.  I had a great time.  It certainly wasn't what I was expecting.  Some of the dialog was bad and Dandelion's voice acting was the worst.  Just terrible.  Other than that tho great fun and a neat combat system.

@Luke: The Witcher 2 was on sale a few weeks back for $35 :)

I'm close to finishing chapter 4 myself in Witcher 1, can't wait to finish it and get into 2. The game does drag on too much in chapter 1 and the swamp area is annoying as its used way too much.

The choices in this game plagued the hell out of me. Impressive stuff, I just didn't really enjoy the combat.
 
Edit: Done - it's hard to actually show the game properly without presenting an essential choice in the game.

1st chapter is way too long and boring, 2nd chapter requires a fair amount of grinding and heavy reliance on potions until you level up enough to survive battles without running away.  Once you've leveled up your skills/magic enough, everything gets a lot easier and satisfying.  Def recommend the wikia, if you get stuck.  If you can get to the end of the second chapter, you will be in love with this game.
