The aesthetic and tone remind me immediately of Deadlight.

Seeing this game being played really evokes The Sims in a shitty situation.

I've been really interested in the concept of this, but wary of how it actually plays. Excited to find out!

e: Haha, 3 minutes in, the guy says he needs to lie down or his wounds will reopen so Drew has him immediately get back up out of bed.

edit 2: Seems he's generally really bad at this. I'm glad Brad talked him out of trading so much crap for a bandage he didn't need. But then he just has everyone sleep at the end.

Man, if there were plant monsters in this game, it'd pass as a weird (kind of awesome) Last of Us spin off. This looks awesome though, I'll have to check it out.

I've spent over 20 hours with this game and I finally made it to the ceasefire after numerous playthroughs where everyone died horribly.

As someone who is trying to quit smoking, it isn't as easy as just telling someone to stop.

Regarding getting information about the conflict and other details to make the world feel more real, Drew didn't notice but you can "tune" the radio to different frequencies and read 3-4 messages each day, there is usually 1 or 2 new messages each day with information about market prices and weather, and a few news stations.

Also you can upgrade the various item making stations, with each new level come new items to make.

Also the cigarettes are used when a smoker sits down on a chair.

The soundtrack sounds beautiful! Definitely want to play this soon.

Thats a really good game plagued by one really poor section. I think people are a little too hard on it. Apart from the sewers, which admittedly drag on for way too long and are pretty awful, the entire game is really cool and the levels feel great.

Really enjoying this game in the dark with my headphones. Didn't take long at all to get the hang of things, even with the lack of tutorial. Combat is clunky. Love the setting.

When I first heard Patrick mention this I imagined it as some kind of first person thing, which would have been awesome too.

@drewbert You can build a water purifier in the workbench, then filters for it. You get 4 water units per filter.

For some reason, I read the title as "This War of Mime."

I think I'd much rather play that game.

A few minutes into the video this reminds me a lot of State of Decay but 2d and in real world conflict rather than zombies. The setting makes it much more interesting than State of Decay though because I'm so sick of zombie games. I'm not a fan of this graphical style but I already know I want to give this game a shot.

I'm completely flabbergasted how @drewbert completely missed the "upgrade" icons. They're right there begging to be clicked :(

Also, if you double-click on a thing it makes the character run, which is a huge timesaver during daytime.

Yeah. Those comparisons to quitting heroin are not a joke. It's real rough.

This game is not cheap in what it presents. I may want to try it someday. I'm not adverse to real life games, but I wish I had The ethical ground of stealing from the bad people. But that is the very hand they knock away.

Happy this got a QL I've been wondering since this popped up on steam what it actually was.

I've played a few runs of this, and it seems like you start with the same people each time, which is helpful, especially having the good cook. I've avoided the dangerous places because of a lack of weapons, but after seeing what Drew did, I think I'll be more ambitious when I load this up again.

They're probably talking about a headline that floated around about percentages of quitters relapsing being the same with cigarettes and heroin.

The physical addiction wasn't fun for quitting smoking, but it wasn't what made it difficult to quit. Smoking is socially acceptable, and heroin isn't. I pass dozens of places to buy cigarettes on my way home, and they take credit cards. Any time you buy groceries or fill up your gas tank you have to decide to not buy cigarettes.

Because no one will really care if you do.

It's cheap. It's easy to hide. It's not illegal.

That makes it tough at times, but it's not heroin. People quit smoking without assistance all the time. Almost every adult I know smoked regularly at some point in their lives, and almost every adult I know has stopped.

Heroin users are not afforded such luxuries.

Went into this quick look expecting to be bored, came out thinking this game looks fucking rad. If I had room in the budget for another game this month, this would be top of the list.

Seems different from what everyone made this out to be. Still, something I'd like to check out.

That's a pretty heavy theme for a game.

I don't understand one thing: Drew said he spent about 90 minutes with this game before they started recording and he was at the day 7, then in an hour long video they progress 3 days? How did he squish that many days in an hour and a half?

Just a minor correction, War child is not a develeoper. It's a charity which they encourage you to donate to.

@quipido: Many of the things he did in the video he did while explaining them. Having played the game myself I can say it's easy to progress quite fast.

It's not as hard to quit smoking, but the quitting success rates are nearly the same. This is because you can be a functional smoker and put off addressing the addiction, but being a heroin addict forces you to address the addiction more readily because of the more immediate negative results that result from that addiction. That being said, I smoked for a little less than 10 years and quitting was the worst: anxiety, insomnia, night sweats. It was no joke.

Been watching a lot of this on Twitch and it does a lot with relatively little and can get extremely heavy. Very effective game

I really like the look of this. Cool concept and execution.

This looks like it will be awesome when they get out of early access and replace the placeholder graphics and polish the mechanics.

Definite buy that day.

Jason, I smoked for years, few months ago I switched to a vape and have been slowly dropping the nicotine levels in my juice. It's worked really well for me, haven't had a cigarette since, if you ever decide to give quitting a shot you should think about going the vape route, it works.

The animation for the characters looks so good in this game and I love how it changes to express the their condition throughout the game.

Between this quick look and the things they talked about on Idle Thumbs, I need to play this.

This looks rad. Hope somebody does a Never Alone QL. A lot of great indie games around.
