Quick Look: Toejam & Earl

I'm surprised that the second game was such a radical departure from the first. I have to imagine fans of the first game were pissed.

TJ&E1 is one of the greatest games of all time. TJ&E2 is one of the most underrated platformers of all time. I actually like TJ&E3 too.

Drew needs to make an entire album using the jam session thing.

The subtitle for Toejam & Earl 2 should be "pretend in never happened".

I'm loving all the Drew videos, keep'em coming.

I think thats basically the whole reason people were down on TJ&E 2. I mean some of the jumping puzzles were kinda obtuse as hell, it had tons more style, the music was still good, and the minigames were really interesting. There were so many improvements made in Panic that people just seemed to ignore. Just simply because they felt like it was strange to make it a platformer. *shrugs*

TJ&E should only be played co-op.

This franchise is one of the notable gaps in my gaming history. Had SNES, no Genesis. I remember reading about this game in magazines at the time.

This game is weird.

YES THE MUSIC IS SO GOD DAMN FUNKY! My friend and I have completed this about 4 or 5 times over the recent years, just that good.

For the food in the game: Sweets and junkfood give you life back, any "healthy" stuff like cabbage hurts you.

Man I LOVED this game as a kid. Still own the original release on the Genesis and still play it from time to time. Game is awesome!

But he is wrong about toejam and earl 2.

Toejam and Earl is indeed amazing, but watching this QL I can imagine plenty of people who didn't grow up with it wondering why it's fun, cuz there's a whooooooooole lot of just walkin' around.

As one of those people I was always dumbfounded whenever I saw footage of this game and people praising it, but having all the systems explained to me like they were in this quicklook, I can sort of get an idea what all the fuzz was about.

One of the few games I was jealous of Sega Genesis owners for.

There really insn't anything wrong with Toejam and Earl 2, it's not as good as the first, but is far from a BAD game when compared to some of the platforming crap games that were released for the Sega.

Toejam & Earl 2 is my favorite.

TJ&E2 is actually a pretty good game.

So this is like Skyrim but for the Genesis and has co-op?

Agree with Drew about playing games as a kid and not really getting or ignoring some mechanics. I didn't really get or understand a lot of stuff about Toejam and Earl and I'm only understanding what function stuff has now by watching this video. Also, more Drew quick looks!

I really like Toe Jam and Earl 2. Three is the one that shat the bed.

I've been looking forward to this. As a wee lass I took to the offensive whenever the opportunity presented itself.... bees aren't too difficult to peg with the standard tomatoes and being repeatedly stung either to death or off of a ledge is never fun. Hamsters, however, are best left alone. A shame 3 failed so utterly... it stuck much closer to the original play-wise from the little I've tried.

Hey, Panic on Funkotron is an OK platformer.

I'm a bit sad to see them be so down on TJ&E2 and not giving it a fair chance in this QL.

IMO it is also a very good co-op game with solid controls, great music and a lot of style. It might not have random levels and presents that you can use as items, but it is great fun.

Can't be said enough, but damn Drew is awesome. 

I love the fuck outta this game, still have the original cart. It was so original and the music is still awesome, a great example or Genesis music done right. Drew has been Big Earl Bumped up my list of favorite duders now. Also him recreating the song in the freestyle mode is gdlk!

Anyone else find it ironic that Drew was Earl and Jeff was Toejam >.>

I much more fondly remember Toejam and Earl 2 than 1. Thought it was awesome!

shortest one ever, the game isn't that long.

Never played this game. But I owned #2, and played the fuuuuuuck out of toe jam and earl 2. That was one of my favorite platformers ever. Funny that this looks to have a lot of style and everything but I'm not really into the gameplay of it. They took a ton of the side stuff into 2, the look of things, music, presents, the screen of you collecting ship pieces and filling it in. Can see it all come from this, just not the gameplay. And man, 2 looked so bad ass too. I want to play TJ2 now.

Never understood why people sing the praises of this game. It's so fucking boring, all you do is walk around and pick up shit. And Toejam and Earl are just about as cool as Sonic the Hedgehog. In fact, Toejam and Earl sound like friends Sonic would have in Sonic Adventure 3.

Why so much hate for TJ&E 2? I remember absolutely loving that game. The first one didn't look all that interesting to me.

Wow all my great memories of the franchise came from the second one, so it was a little disheartening to see Drew and Jeff rip it apart. At first glance I thought the first one looked terrible. After watching this QL I might have to go back and give the first one a try. I can understand the presents being a letdown in the second though. I still like the style no matter what in any of the releases.
