@TekZero: So, I picked up Skate 2 on a whim after watching this quick look and I just cannot get that system to work for me. I feel like I'm fighting it constantly to get my character to do what I want. What do you like about it?

The Skate series is so much better than Tony Hawk ever was. Its as close to actual skateboarding that a video game will probably ever be. If you can't get the character to do what you want it to do, its you, its not the game. Skate's controls are perfect. How you move the sticks on the controller is how you move your feet if you were actual skating. I will admit that it takes a while to get used to the controls though.

I would have liked to have seen more levels. They included some good ones, but a full remake would have been better.

Am I the only one who thought the underground games were the best?

They were probably my most played games of the gamecube and ps2 for me

I'm with you, I much prefer the THUG games to these.

I think THUG 2 was the last Tony Hawk game I played and after playing so much of the Skate series I don't know if I could go back.

Still pretty sure these guys have never played 4. All it added was cutscenes and lots of awesome flatground manuals. Take that game, add the levels from the first three, and you have the perfect Tony Hawk game.

Was it Tony Hawk 3 that had the one town level with the haunted house you could smash through? Because I loved that thing, I'd like to see that return.

I was kinda stoked for this until I saw the quick look, now I think I'll hold out to see if we get some THPS3 love, 'cause no suburbia=no go. Also, I don't like how dark everything is, where's all the color?

Anyone remember the Gameboy Advance Tony Hawk? I thought that was a pretty good version. Played enough of it as a kid anyway.

"Hangar is a bad level"

I wish I could argue with Jeff about that. But it's so spot on.

I love the level because THPS2 was my first experience with the franchise and because it was the one level I played the most. But if I look at it objectively I cannot argue that it's anything but a bad level that holds a certain nostalgia factor for a lot of gamers, myself included.

Still, I pulled off some amazing runs on that level. And some legendary bails as well. And I used that level to get a few of my friends hooked on the franchise too. Making the helicopter take off always managed to impress.

I think I need to dig out my Dreamcast and see if I still have THPS2 classic. :)

Whenever Tony Hawk is discussed on this site I have to voice my (minority) support for THPS4 as my favorite Tony Hawk games. I like reverts, spine transfers, and trick modifiers. I also quite blasphemously prefer 4's "Free skate + one-off 2-minute goals" thing to the traditional 2-minute goals system.

Then I'll have to support Project 8. It did away with the annoying and awful "badditude" story of the Underground games and instead focused on the goals, with a tiered system that rewarded skillful play. It also introduced that cool slow-mo foot flip mode that was tough to master but was key to scoring huge combos. It was a fantastic game that felt like what a modern THPS should be. Unfortunately, instead of following that up with a nice iteration on what could have been a fresh new formula, they went with American Sk8land or whatever it was called. And then Skate came in and stole the skating crown. I had hoped that Skate and THPS could co-exist like Forza and Burnout. Two games in the same genre specializing in very different styles. But then the flame the fueled the skate game craze kinda burned out.

I think I'm going to hunt down a copy of Project 8.

love how they managed to make an HD big budget video game thats a remake of n64 games, and the n64 games play better. THPS3 on N64 is better than this game which definitely took millions to make. THAW on PS2 is the best one there is. Pressure flips, natas spins, bank drops, BMX. That game was truly the best.

Would like to know if anyone can beat my highest combo in THAW. 11.5 Million.

The Tony Hawk games are an inextricable part of my youth. I grew up with that shit. Every now and then I think that it would be a great idea to pull out one of the games, but every time I'm vastly underwhelmed. The games have all aged really badly: doing tricks gives me no sense of satisfaction whatsoever, since they're all done without any effort at all. It is a series that is best left as a fond memory.
