@cabrit_sans_cor: It's exactly the opposite for me. As someone who has three friends and four controllers, I can not get enough of these simple competitive games.

Ugh. I'm starting to get really tired of these local multiplayer "couch games".

And I'm really tired of playing games with online randoms.

Couch co-op games-- especially 4P ones-- are typically twitchy, easy to pick up, and a great way to include your friends that enjoy playing these sorts of things but aren't necessarily enthusiasts with their own consoles/PCs. This stuff is fun to watch, play, and good for groups gathered in one room. TowerFall, Nidhogg, Crawl, etc... bring'em all on.

This assumes you have local friends to play with and like having people over to your house to be rowdy and irritating. But if your an introvert, these games are kind of completely worthless other then to watch other people play, which sometimes is fun and sometimes isn't, and highly dependent on the game and the person watching.

@neonie: When the games look great it's even worse, it starts to feel like it is taunting you and your remote friend having ways.

Giancarlo's a cool dude. It's been too long since I've watched any videos with him in them, but I guess I just don't frequent Gamespot enough. Either way it was cool he was in for this & Crawl.

I genuinely think a Team Brad shirt with "Whose Brad at games now!?" is the future of the idea of a Team Brad shirt.

This game looks fun. Good quick look, I'm glad they checked out a couple mutators. I always enjoy the 4 player videos this site puts together. Thanks, Giancarlo.

So like... Don't play them?

I could understand if you were complaining about the "CoD-ification" of games because that's kind of something that's seeped its way into almost every facet of the industry, but local co-op is pretty much relegated to the lower-budget indie scene. Trust me, you don't have to worry about couch co-op invading your precious games any time soon.

Also, as an INTP I love getting rowdy with friends over a game of Mario Kart or something. It gives you some direction, something to talk about and bond over.

Ohhi Quick Look. I wonder if this will get across what's so good about this game. I keep hearing it is the all 4player game but the few times I have played it I would much rather being playing SamGunn, BBB, Spelunky DM or THE BEST GAME Gang Beasts.

What's BBB?

Really? There's like one of these for every 25 games that offer only online multiplayer. Does it bother you that some people enjoy the physical company of real life friends instead of 12-year-old strangers calling them slurs? You can ignore them -- quite easily, really.

Yeah, damn all of these, like, 0.5% of games that actually have local multiplayer these days!
