Great review. But I disagree about the cops being less annoying in SR2 than GTAIV. Running over a stop sign will get you ten cops on your ass in SR2.

To all of you 12 year olds who think this looks like a ps2 game: GO BACK and play San Andreas or vice city again! If you still think Saints Row 2 looks "ps2-ish" I recommend you get your eyes checked.

EDIT: Great game BTW

GTA IV demolishes SR2 in TWO main areas only.  It's more serious (storyline, car controls, physics, EUPHORIA and characterisation) and it looks a whole lot better.

SR2 absolutely destroys GTA IV in these areas:-

1.  It's lighthearted and much easier to pick up and play.

2.  Customisation - you can totally change your player and your crew AND the vehicles - shape, colour, durability, hand to hand combat styles (obviously not the vehicles) and so on.

3.  It has much better combat in general both in terms of application and variety.  Gunplay is varied with a wide variety of weapons from  CANS OF MACE and Stun Guns, Swords,  through all of the generic handguns, semi and full auto guns (even the XM8 with 'nade launcher and on to rocket launchers and a fewof thrown weapons too (including frag nades, flashbangs and remote detonating explosives).  The melee combat is much more varied than GTA IV's with combos and throws included.  Moreover, you get to actually USE IT (unlike GTA IV where you basically shoot at or run over/run away from cops and other enemy NPCs) in arena areas which go round by round and earn you money and unlock cheatmodes.

and most importantly

3.  IT HAS FULL STORY MODE CO OP.  Not only that but ALL of the various features work in coop, including arena combat and smash up derby.

The full story mode co-op play makes SR2 stand HEAD AND SHOULDERS above GTA IV and I can't believe it wasn't even mentioned in the review!  This feature, above all others, gives SR2 serious replay value (and it works with mods too on the PC version).

I own both games on PC and played GTA IV first.  I've also played both games with mouse and keyboard and XBOX 360 Controller. While I still dearly love GTA IV, for my money SR2 is just a much better game.

screw it i downloaded this game a while ago and am going back to it after i finally get around to finishing  gta:iv instead of getting ac:brotherhood or red dead redemption.

interesting at the end of the review he says its more fun in part because its easier then gta:iv.  he could have also pointed out the option to change the difficulty level in this game which is missing from gta:iv.   i played through a bit of this game after playing gta:iv for a while and am thinking its too easy on the normal level.

I'm replaying this game right now.  In single-player, this is a solid 4 star game that is bags of fun.  In co-op though ... holy shit you will never have more fun in a videogame than in co-op Saints Row 2.  I've never laughed so much at a game in my entire life.

All of the diversions take on a different tone in co-op as well.  Remember those escort missions where you drive a hooker around while she turns tricks in the back of the car?  Yeah, one of you has to be the hooker. Pure gold.

I put 43 hours into single-player, and I'm 30 hours into a co-op completion run.  This time, I'm having even more fun.  30 hours, and we've only done a third of the missions because we are so busy just pissing around.
