This Ain't No Game: TANG: Resident Evil: Degeneration

This movie sucked major monkey balls. Why, o, why is it so hard to make a proper movie out of the RE liscence? Now they can't blame it on Hollywood anymore if they can't manage their own property.

It really wasn't 'that' bad.

I enjoyed watching this movie and would gladly watch it again. It has good action which is what I like to see in a movie. Being a fan of the series does help make this movie a bit better and it does a good job at vaguely explaining the story between RE4 and RE5, I wouldn't want it to spoil RE5 for me.

I could see it being a bad movie if your weren't an RE fan however.

The best part is when Leon shoots like five zombies in the head in a row with his pistol. The rest was kind of meh~.

I watched this movie and I also thought it was boring. I fell asleep about half way through. I did end up finishing it and thought it was an overall OK movie.

I got about half way through. I'm not the biggest RE fan, but overall I found it kinda boring and predictable.

I love how terrible Leon's face looks when he says, "IF YOU DON'T TRY TO SAVE ONE LIFE, YOU'LL NEVER SAVE ANY!!!!"

This movie is as boring as all the RE games (sans 4),
so I'd say it's pretty faithful that way.
Still there's no excuse for the mediocre CG quality,
even though that at least is better than the games..es!

I actually liked this movie. Sure it's not as fast tempo as the games are, but I still enjoyed watching it.

It's got its problems, but I still prefer Degeneration over any of the other three RE movies.

Meh, I actually liked the movie, but I knew what to expect.. How much better graphics do they need? It's good enough.. straight to DVD stuff is usually bad, why treat this like its supposed to be so much better, its just some story Capcom wanted to release in an enjoyable way. Movies like these don't need too much criticism because like Advent Children, it's more or less fan service, but this one just wasn't as over the top. 
I watched Degeneration for Claire, Leon, and guess what, I dislike zombie plants and animals, so straight up zombies is a movie for me. It wasn't a kick ass movie or anything, but was good enough I bought the DVD just to have it. So a review is just a review, even if we get a bad review here, doesn't mean its a terrible movie altogether. Enjoy what you enjoy.

this is and advent children are the only ones i disagree with. I love those movies, especially thos one. I love the resident evil series more than the final fantasy series (IMO)

I liked this movie, but I'm biased because I've been in love with RE since the 90's

There is a hint at a love story between Chris and Jill, ultimately the games are more about survival and redemption, but overall they are just the typical heroes journey - the departure, the journey and the return. Weirdly sexless? It's a video game about blowing away zombies, it's about surviving not romance. HYPER-provocative? This isn't Bayonetta, I'd hardly call any of the Resident Evil games HYPER-provocative. I mean the only one that springs to mind is Jill Valentine in Resident Evil 2... and that's just a girl in a mini-skirt, it's not exactly a dominatrix outfit.

When Leigh stops writing about "Call of Duty is filled with 'dude bro' guys!" and "Women like games too!!" AND actually apologises for getting drunk and making an ass of herself at industry events (you know, acting professional) I'll listen. But she whines and whines about girls and games ... even right now, front page of here blog is an article called "About That 'Fake Geek Girls' Article" where she gets personally offended about people calling out posers. Beat the dead horse more.

This is all IMHO. Her opinion isn't invalid, nor is yours, but I think she's wrong. Getting back on topic, if you want a game that deals with sexuality in a mature way it's not going to be in a game called Resident Evil.

And I don't want the game to necessarily deal with "sexuality," that was NEVER the point. The point is: for a game that has unlockable costumes that border on DOA levels of cheesecake, the characters are all written like they're out of Starship Troopers.

Starship Troopers was a great movie and book... for what appears to be a dumb action movie (and book in many ways) it had a lot to say about the nature of patriotism and how the military influences our perception. Sorry that you missed that.

What? So you think it's weird that they dress provocatively but think it would less weird if people acknowledge this? But also, they should do this without acknowledging their own sexuality. How exactly?

And what does your last point mean? It SHOULD be written better like DOA? Why would you expect the characters to be written more seriously the more the cheesiness increases? Or do you mean it should be written more seriously unlike DOA?

Nothing you're saying makes sense. There's countless examples of cheesy movies, games and books that go for action rather than sex. Who cares? Does it really matter? That's the problem with Leigh, everything has to be engaging on every level, it can't just be fun or stupid. Nobody actually gets off on these women, it's just stupid shit in a weird game.

@PandaBear: Maybe I'm being a little unclear, but when I bring up Starship Troopers, I bring up a book (because the movie is one of the greatest pieces of satire ever written, but it has NOTHING to do with the book) with a protagonist who is nothing but pure, violent, war personified. There was no romance, no passion, Rico's life WAS the corps, and you could basically say the same for Chris, Jill, Leon, Sheva, Claire, anyone in the RE series DESPITE, unlike Starship Troopers, the fact that almost all these characters (at least the female ones) are hypersexualized at some point. It's one of the more pure forms of sublimation I've EVER seen in videogames, especially across a single franchise.

What I'm saying is: a game that takes itself as seriously as RE does should have NO ROOM for DOA levels of cheesecake, yet this thing wants it both ways. It takes its history, storylines, plot, characterization ULTRA-SERIOUSLY when it comes to writing, but when it comes to actual execution it's...completely absurd in an utterly unaware level. And again: you yourself admit that the game hints at some kind of sexual tension between the characters, yet it NEVER acts on this, instead it just throws skanky costumes at the viewer. This isn't Shoot 'Em Up, it's Transformers 3.

And it's funny that now YOU'RE the one constantly bringing up Leigh. I could frankly care less about her online persona, what the GB community thinks of her, or about ANYthing she's done after the point she made because she made a good observation about this unintentionally absurd series: constant teases with absolutely zero payoff (and, again, a LOT of cheesecake) across...seven core games? Not including any of the spin-offs/side-stories?
