corrections always irk me. they just feel like they facilitate unnecessary nitpickiness from the community.

@deerokus: I'd sooner guess poorly run/simply struggling. Honestly they may need to start downsizing. I get the sense that their primary business of engine licensing hasn't been doing so well.

People like to think it's scumminess that creates situations like this but for an established company that's pretty unlikely. It doesn't do much for the company to pretend they don't have the money to pay workers because it doesn't help the business or higher up individuals too much.

That stuff happens in this industry. The cycle of money on games isn't like with your traditional job.

The only real issue there might be with management is communication. I wouldn't call that scummy just unwise and based on fear or other reactionary emotions.

But what do I know. Very little, to be clear.

It's scummy simply because the worst chain-yanking a business can do to its employees is delaying payments. People have monthly bills to pay, expenses to manage, etc, and a business delaying their paychecks FUBARs all of that. I would argue it's even worse than getting fired outright; if you're fired, at least you can start looking for a new job immediately instead of waiting weeks/months to see what happened to your paycheck.

The only way delayed paychecks is remotely tolerable is if the top brass was delaying their paychecks as well. If they're still getting $100K+ salaries while their employees are waiting months to see any money, something's rotten.

Did Alex say "I'll bet you a fiver?" I've never heard an American say "fiver" before!

Hearing Jeff say that an orgy could be like D&D, there could be rules, made me laugh out loud like I haven't in a while. Really felt like Jeff was on fire this episode with the jokes, but mentioning that an orgy could have a strict rule set like D&D was killler.

The only thing more annoying than people saying Die Hard is their favorite Christmas movie are the people who say that and act as if that claim is some crazy and wacky thing no one ever expected and they will have to defend it, and not as if millions of people have already said it.

If the writer of the orgy email wasn't just trolling the Beastcast about their "try everything but meth" advice, they should furnish Dan Savage with more details. Etiquette about sex parties is way more in the wheelhouse of Savage Love.

Asking questions and agreeing on some ground rules is essential before showing up for that kind of thing. It SHOULD be much like setting up a D&D game. A framework minimizes the risk of unpleasant incidents or catching feelings, while building anticipation for the big day. "Spontaneity" is way overrated when it comes to sexy times, especially when trying something new.

P.S. Merry Christmas ya filthy animals!

Not sure why you guys were so confused about orgies when you could have just looked up 'orgy' on google or something. Here, I'll do it right now....oh...this was a mistake. This podcast is the best. Had me dying of laughter several times this episode. I'm a little worried about it being less good when Dan comes on but who knows. Thanks for being the best podcast and have a happy holiday duders.

@mikelemmer: And it's the second time they've done this in the space of a few years. I can't imagine Cevat Yerli and friends are forgoing their money when this happens.

Especially since they aren't sending out company-wide emails promoting how they cut back their own salaries to "help their fellow workers".

I've personally had payments delayed twice (both were freelance writing gigs for supposedly professional companies) and both times were a portent of grim things to come. I've known local store managers that were smarter than these guys.

That orgy email was priceless. I feel as though you guys need to start listening/reading Dan Savage's stuff.

I ain't ever been in that type of situation, but it's a question that crops up a lot on his show - and Dan's advice is kinda constant on this point - never surprise someone (on their birthday) with another human being. And the persons doing the surprising shouldn't be surprised to be doing it either.

That said it could very well be that these folk are a very touchy feely bunch who have all dated one another and have no hangups about being naked around one another, and it's less some sort of sordid "orgy" and more a "love fest" where folk will just gather together and pair off to do their thing (in separate places) all at once, though not necessarily in some big clamorous arena of sex and bodily fluids. "Orgy" can merely be shorthand for "we're all gonna make love in this one big house with lots of bedrooms at the same time" rather than "Jenny's got the strap on, you're the power bottom, and everyone else is watching".

Even if it was a troll message, Alex & Jeff's kneejerk advice is sound - the writer should be asking questions and making sure everything and everyone is cool with the idea of some sort of big love-in. A lot of what you hear about folk who are into various kinks and the BDSM community is that safety, security and above all consent is first and foremost. This is also known as "trust".

Savage seems like a good enough duder, but I really wish his advice to EVERYONE with relationship troubles wasn't "Polyamory! Start fucking other people! It solves ALL relationship troubles!"

Well this was an illuminating beastcast. It always seemed weird to me how Giantbomb insisted on having 2 studio's at each side of the country, but after hearing Vinny say he feels better about orgy's if he doesn't have to see those people at work afterwards, it all makes sense..

I guess Dan Ryckert is on his way to become an orgy-person too!

The way it was always explained to me was that the shitty New Jersey drivers were former New Yorkers that moved to New Jersey and had no idea how to behave on roads like normal people and that native New Jerseyans were largely decent drivers.

Oh yeah and the

No Caption Provided

stuff was funny too. Maybe it's just me, but I always felt an orgy required at least 5 people because otherwise it's just a threesome or just two groups of people having sex in the same room. You need an odd number.

I've barely started on listening to this episode so my question may be answered within, but could it just be that they think of that game as "Oh, the Japanese 'Super Mario 2'," and not as The Lost Levels?

When Alex started his Majesco/Biotech sitcom pitch, I really did not expect it to end as good as it did. I thought it was just going to hang there and be bad, but then it was amazing and I was just shocked. I applaud you Mr. Navarro.

Wait - Jews don't have sin? I mean they have things they are supposed to do (eating things and not eating other things) is not doing these, not sins? First - the kid in home alone was not psychopathic - he was protecting his castle had a legal and moral right to do everything he did. Also what is the definition of a Christmas movie - does it only have to take place at Christmas? Many ones listed here I don't consider Christmas movies.

Ah thought cryteck had shut down some US studios - glad I was wrong less worried about it now.

I have issues with a government giving money to a video game company but eh not my government so thy can do what they like.

I really don't understand why the tracer stuff isn't seen as pandering - I mean her sexuality doesn't matter to the game or the character so why should it be an issue at all? I don't get it. But I don't get involved in ships or such.

ok an orgy for a birthday party...man how can I get friends like this? A surprise orgy EVEN BETTER! Especially if it was like in eyes wide shut and they all wore crazy masks. And can we ask the person who wrote the question to give more information - and especially if they go can we get info what it was like??

And yes pot is destroying Colorado as it is becoming full of potheads that don't work or have any ambition.

Hope every one had a great Christ Mass!

Biggest gaming myth for me growing up was "Nudalities" in the MK games. All the kids at my school were talking about the ability to do raunchy finishing moves with various characters that all featured nudity. Obviously not true, but since we didn't have the internet quite yet, there wasn't really a way to disprove them.

Jeff B. saying an orgy might be like D&D that there could be rules is the nerdiest thing I've ever heard.
