Dynamite Headdy is my favorite Genesis game. So happy that Jeff checked it out!

Old freakin Video Games! Sometimes these home streams are exactly what I need.

The Jeff Gerstmann old videogame show might not be the most popular thing on the site, but it gives the site its soul.

Ah, Thunder Force II... one of the first games I bought for my Genesis but I had totally forgotten it was a top-down and not a side-scroller. However, that title screen music has been burned into my brain for over 20 years. :)

I love that Jeff's saying he's glad to be away from Metal Gear Survive, and then the first game he plays flat out says "GOODLUCK".

Dynamite Headdy is a top 10 Genesis game for me, if not top 5. And Kid Chameleon was such a huge thing that I probably spent more hours with it than some of the Sonics.

Holy crap, I had COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN DecapAttack! I used to play that when I was a kid. I was terrible at it, but I remember liking it. Wow. Trip down memory lane!

On the Treasure tip, though, next Mega Drive stream I would love to see some Alien Soldier. That game is goddamn ridiculous and awesome and ridiculous.

EDIT: Man, I'd forgotten that Dynamite Headdy song sounds so much "Norwegian Wood" at the start there.

Y'know, the Genesis was pretty great, if I might risk setting the site ablaze with my scorching take.

Doesn't hurt that I love the look of Amiga games. That's a highly specific aesthetic I'd like to see come back. Somebody get the Bitmap Brothers on the horn.

The Super Nintendo Beavis & Butthead game played better and was way less difficult. Pretty different games though.

Mr. Nutz looks and sounds like a Castle of Illusion clone.

It's funny that Jeff got to about the same place I would always get to before I said "all right, that's probably enough dick tracy."

Dynamite Headdy is such a rad game.

As someone who has recently gotten into collecting old games, in large part thanks to Jeff and this series, I adore these videos. I could listen to Jeff reminisce about old games all day (and have). Thanks!

People often seem to be asking @jeff to play Amiga stuff on these streams, but perhaps it's more useful to give some good suggestions for Amiga games that aren't also very well known on other platforms and that might appeal to Jeff's taste:

Not gonna lie, the animation sprite work for that Garfield game was pretty smooth. The game itself, not so much.

Also Dynamic Headdy looks ridiculous but awesome.

Also wondered what that Marvel Land game was about. Gameplay looks not stellar, but I like the aesthetic and character design.

The Mr. Nutz "jump on enemies" noise is giving me Box Maker flashbacks.

Edit: Weird coincidence - when Jeff said "iconic noises" of Dick Tracy, I though "The Metal Gear Solid of its day", then Jeff seconds later brought up Hideo Kojima.

I was thinking similar - the narrative looks generic as hell, but the music and character design / the ways it's presented is kinda neat.

Dynamite Headdy is my favorite Genesis AND Treasure game. And the soundtrack is really amazing.

I love Jeff's solo streams. I want him to play Violent Storm sometime, just for the soundtrack.

Man the genesis version of the lost vikings sounds terrible. The snes soundtrack was brilliant!

In case you're wondering how to defeat Count Slobula, you have to jump on the coffin he goes in and then jump again to open the window and the sunlight will hit him. You then have to repeat the process two more times to defeat him.

Yeah, this took me months to figure out by myself when I first got this and the hint they gave was really vague (something like use sunlight to defeat him but gives no indication whatsoever in how to release it)

Never been much of a fan of Thunderforce series' soundtracks despite their fame. Too workmanlike, with alot of space-filling arpeggios.

Dick Tracy was a good game, but I didn't care for the levels where you had to punch guys. I always enjoyed the shooting segments a lot more. Dynamite Headdy looks great. Giant Bomb should just become a site about playing every Garfield game over and over.

Garfield: Caught in the Act was the last Genesis game I ever bought. It came with a free Fruit Rollup inside. Still good after like a couple of years after it came out and I bought it. I kinda liked the game too.

I'm happy to see some Dynamite Headdy rep. It was one of my favorite childhood games. So good! The game just keeps getting more and more nuts! Some of the best use of sound on the Genesis too. Well worth a playthrough (even with cheats) just to see it Jeff.

I still believe Zanac is the best top down shooter....

I think Marvel Land has one of the worst looking pixel art I've ever seen. Looks like it was the artist's first time using a pixel painting software: here, go crazy with it!
