Thursday Night Throwdown: 07/12/12

I wish I could find that puzzle game somewhere where you drop three circles at a time (in a pyramid shape) where each circle is a different color. When three of the same color touch, they disappear. The circles would pile up and trickle down as effected by gravity. Is that Magical Drop? I remember playing this game in my college's arcade between classes. There were big bright anime characters in the background (the cool goofy 80s kind, not the moe stuff).

Oh man, some real bad Tetris play going on in this TNT. For being extremely serious gamers, it doesn't seem like they've played much classic Tetris. Their fundamentals are terrible.

Watching Jeff sigh and shake his head while Vinny dumps endless three point shots in the hoop is one of my favorite moments of this year.

That's why I prefer women's Tetris, better fundamentals make up for the lack of crazy showboating.

They did get progressively more ridiculous. The last 10 or so reminded me of the type of shot that always worked in Double Dribble for NES. Start at the 3 point line, float forward then back, then release the ball, inexplicably having enough momentum to shoot from 40 feet while moving backwards....and nothing but net!

Never let Brad near Tetris Battle Gaiden ever again. Not because of how he plays it, but because he turned this in to the Tetris Battle Gaiden show. Him bringing up Mortal Kombat 2 also had me rolling my eyes a little, too, because the first one of these they ever did turned in to "Jeff and Brad play all versions of Mortal Kombat that Jeff owns and like 15 minutes of something else".
 
Once he gets a controller in his hands during something he can be competitive at he won't let go.

At least Ninja Kid is balanced in Rensa mode. They should do a scrub league tournament.

Battle Tetris is awesome but it just went on for far too long considering how varied the member stream was.

I don't think you realize the pure destructive power of Wolfman's Slow + Rensa combo. While the opponent is taking 10 seconds to put down his piece, you can knock out 6 lines and pile the shit out of their side. They'll be near the top while you're on a clean board.

Oh my god, I was in tears by the end of the NBA Live 95 game. Watching Vinny score ludicrous 3 pointers was glorious.
