Unfinished: Destiny 06/06/2014

Hey, for a 2014 game it looks alright. Good shadows. Finally the industry is almost at Doom 3 level shadows.

Can I be annoyed at the technology? Spaceships. Moon wizards and warlocks. Hoverbikes. All awesome.

Why does a laser gun need a charging handle?

This seems alright, but I really don't like playing shooters without a mouse. I know the PS4 version of A Realm Reborn let's you use mouse and keyboard, but I doubt it will show up for this.

So in your vid you wondered if there were random loot drops, I can confirm that there are in fact random loot drops. I picked up a hand cannon, a couple of sniper rifles and a fusion rifle during the intro Alpha mission. Afterwards during the Exploration area I did find some dropped armor (hunter scarf, a sexy red number)

Looks like Borderlands meets Mass Effect. Alrighty then....

Glad this went up. Now I don't feel the need to buy this until it's dropped in price. Just seems like Morderlands.

Same for me. I had no idea what Destiny was. I got into the Alpha and played it for hours after I already finished it. The game is really fun. Day one buy for me as well.

Well, I changed my opinion on the game. I'm going to have to check this out, now. Too bad there is no upcoming PC version (announced as of yet). I guess I'll have to go PS3 or something.

It's like he emotes *just* enough to make it seem weird.

Finally finished this video. Not fully convinced, but far more than I was when I had no f'ing idea what this game was supposed to be.

I'll be busy with Halo collection come November, but with this out in September I'll probably check it out, barring any horrible unforseen revelations.

It looks like Bungie's take on PSO. All of a sudden I really want to play Destiny.

@rorie: I was watching a pseudo-nature documentary on Animal Planet and lamenting how bad the narration was--then I realized it was Dinklage. I honestly think he's just really bad at voice over, for whatever reason.

I didn't think anything one way or another about this game but I was sold the minute I saw the hub city and the vendors. Bring it on, let's go.

Looks promising, but it makes me sad a shooter is not coming to the PC. I just can't do it with gamepads.

Yeah, it sounds real phoned in. I mean, I love him on Game of Thrones and all. But hiring him just seems like Bungie cashing in on the GoT fame, because Peter Dinklage does not have a very distinct voice. Not on the level of actors like Lance Reddick. If Drew hadn't asked, I would not have even known. He pronounces his "O's" weird, but that just seems like something carried over from his weird GoT accent.

I don't think the fact that he's supposed to be an AI robot excuses it. It's like they didn't know how to direct his voice. They didn't know how much emphasis they wanted on human emoting and cold AI. In the end you're left with a weird, uninterested performance. I am honestly surprised none of them burst out laughing when he said "It's the Hive!"

This looks really interesting. Hopefully it won't take long for the players that they should actually... play the game. You did see a lot of players in the lobby just standing around. Let's not hope THAT happens a lot, otherwise it looks pretty much like a really good nextgen shooter. Sort of a mix of er... Borderlands, PSO and Halo... might be more it's like, but there you have it. I like how it plays... other than the fact the timer of your respawn is long and sends you in direct fire of the enemies, though that may only be one of those alpha things. Should really fix so they are at least in a cover... yup!

Or 30fps. And that narrow FOV.

Hopefully it comes to PC at some point, 'cause I'm sure as hell not gonna play this on consoles.

I'm holding off for a PC version. I would love to play a good MMOFPS but I can't stand playing shooters with a controller.

I watched a Destiny trailer last night that actually had the proper robotic filters put over Dinklage's VO and it sounded a-ok.

How Bungie/Activision thought it was OK to put out that small slice of gameplay with the VO in such an unfinished state is... interesting. Or it might have been an accidental oversight, since the E3 trailers have it fixed.

They did it in order to draw out the people who think that everything experienced in a clearly marked as unfinished product is what's going to be in the final product, and I approve of it.

Ive had a blast with the Destiny alpha. I cant wait to be unleashed in this world. As always, i worry about the end game because im not a big PvP guy but the world is interesting and the combat is engaging.

I wonder what will be open to us in the beta?

I guess im excited for an MMO now!

Okay they got me - looks like something me and my mates would enjoy, heck looks like a game I would enjoy solo..

Glad this video finally shows me what kind of game this is, so I know I don't care about. Not saying it looks bad, in fact it looks very well made, but I have no interest in online games of this nature. I can finally stop being mad it's not coming to PC day one!

This is a very pretty game and the multiplayer end of things was a lot like Halo - which is a good thing considering that's the only MP I've been comfortable playing. To be really honest, I'm a bit disappointed that the single player component seems to operate an awful lot like Borderlands.

I pray that the load times will be shorter in the final release.

Drew's Guilty Spark hum was perfect (actually thought it was the game and was really confused until Jeff mentioned it), and that Huey Simulator tune at 24:05 was great. Hey Dave, remember that song we used to play?That chest opening animation is pretty great.This game looks pretty good. Too bad I won't be able to play it for a long time.

I haven't played an MMO in ages because of fatigue, but I suppose I never really tried one with a console controller either so I'm kind of on board for this.

Peter Dinklage seems totally fine to me. But then again that's just my opinion.

Looks well made and interesting conceptually with how it's integrated elements from different genres. I'm interested, but not sold. I've always found MMOs off putting - Paying monthly fees to play a game you bought, the grinding free to play micro transactions, never ending nature of their stories. It's cool to see this taking a console retail release and dlc approach, but I'm going to wait for reviews to see how the story/gameplay come together in the final product.

Curious when we'll get to see what Destiny 2 will be.

It's kind of funny going back to read all these old comments about how the guys didn't realize Peter Dinklage was Ghost considering all his VO was later removed and replaced with Nolan North.
