Yes, it's super insidious that you can make back a portion of what you spent on games via trading cards because someone on the other end is having fun collecting them! Everybody wins, but there must be something evil afoot!

Dota 2 has a bad business model because everything related to gameplay, EVERYTHING, totally free. But because you can buy hats and skins and announcer packs, things that have no impact on gameplay at all and that you only buy them if you like them and want them, it's awful! Awful! Nevermind that you can also create items of your own to put up and make large profits selling your stuff for your work.

There's nothing insidious. It's smart business because it builds trust and benefits everyone involved massively. That's the best kind of business, because no one feels like they got fucked. Only paranoid fuckers seem to take issue with it. (Not saying you are specifically mind, just that the whole Dota 2 business model has been brought up multiple times here.)

Xbox One game at $60 with pre-order bonuses spread over 15 different retailers, disappointing collector's editions and 15 DLC packs adding up to twice the price of the game = normal, healthy

Free game where you can buy cosmetic stuff = insidious, evil

That Dota2 compendium reminds me of when Brad bitched about the Plants vs Zombies 2 business model or the way they talked about being able to unlock everything in EA Sports games. I guess he can't complain anymore.

Jedi Academy was practically an expansion to Jedi Knight II. I was also going by the official naming scheme of the series since Dark Forces.

They're hiring another producer (Jeff mentioned they've been interviewing). Drew will now be the Vinny, and the new guy will be the Drew in terms of hierarchy i'd imagine.

Why are people angry with the Dota 2 microtransactions? Nothing about the way you play the game changes, it's just cosmetic. I don't like microtransactions either, but the way they're implemented in dota 2 is pretty good.

UPF is going to be dead after vinny leaves. Brad will just play a boring game that noone pays attention to for an hour and then drew will pick up the slack with some interesting weird thing and there will no vinny to actually make it funny :(

When Vinny is gone these shows are really going to suck he is the only one that plays fun games. Everyone else I just nod off till Vinny shows up.

Man. I have not seen a good fire fighting video game since Towering Inferno on Atari 2600. So disappointing.

@serujiow: the xbox one and the games that had micro-transaction weren't free. At least the compendium doesn't give you any real advantage, as the items in dota are purely cosmetic.

According to steam, Brad has played 910 hours of Dota 2? That is almost 38 consecutive days. Dota 2 was officially released July 9, 2013. If you ignored the lengthy beta period and idling while the client is open, Brad would have played Dota 2 for 1/10 of his entire life in the past year.
