If you listen carefully, there's a Ghost vehicle from the Halo series zooming around for the entirety of this recording.

I have to disagree in the strongest possible terms about Donkey Kong Country, that series is as classic as you get far as I'm concerned. They looked great, had really tight gameplay that's only recently been rivaled with Rayman Origins/Legends, had fantastic music and fantastic personality. They're the full package really.

I will agree DKC2 is definitely better than DKC1 but that's only because DKC2 is basically the best video game of all time. DKC1 is the ME1 to DKC2's ME2.

As for that Miyamoto quote dude was just raw because DKC upstaged his Yoshi's Island shit. The suits wanted him to make it look better he said "fuck that, I just want to make it look 2D! Goddamn it." Because of this criticism though he was forced to innovate art stylewise with Yoshi's Island and the game is better for it. Not great mind, it is still Yoshi's Island, but okay.

The original quote was basically the equivalent of someone saying "Kirby's Epic Yarn proves people will buy terrible gameplay if it looks nice" nowadays. Specifically someone who's also making a Kirby game that doesn't do anything interesting visually at the moment and is a bit biased on the topic as a result. Also he recanted it later on and tried to revisionist history his way into being always a supporter of the game in question.

Skies of Arcadia was released for the Dreamcast, that game was great.

Isn't most Paradox releases what you would call mid tier games?

Donkey Kong Country 2 is one of the best games on the SNES and one of the best of all time. Much better than (gasp!) Super Mario World. The original DKC was a novelty but not that amazing as an overall platformer. DKC 3 was just plain weird, but lots of fun too. It's a great series. I liked the Wii one a lot (better with 3DS controls though) and I have the new one preordered. I'm pretty stoked.

Jeff's got a really, really weird opinion of a lot of the best SNES games, probably because he was a Genesis/NeoGeo guy and had already moved on to the PlayStation/Saturn by the time a lot of the best games came out. Still, he doesn't seem too thrilled by Super Metroid, Yoshi's Island, Final Fantasy III/VI, Chrono Trigger, Mega Man X...you know, the very best games of the 16-bit era? Yeah. I take all his opinions from that era with an extreme grain of salt.

@mormonwarrior: Also it's important to remember that games didn't look half as organic or realistic as Donkey Kong Country until a full generation after Donkey Kong Country during the Gamecube/PS2/Xbox era.

Love this videos, always fun to just hear Jeff's opinion on some stuff.

And yeah, I get what he is getting at with that Dungeon Keeper game, but man, it still breaks my fucking heart.

Oh, and get Shenmue, Chu Chu Rocket, Grandia II and Skies of Arcadia for the Dreamcast.

Also, the new video player is working great, way better than the old one.

My parents couldn't stand the ugly, rudimentary look of N64/PlayStation games. My dad would always say that the original Donkey Kong Country looked better than anything on the N64, which isn't inaccurate. I'd say Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is the first game in the series that surpassed that weird pre-rendered style.

Way to go Jeff. You just made video evidence that will be used in your hotel vandalism trial. Enjoy freedom while you can.

That Dungeon Keeper game seems exactly like The Simpsons Tapped Out also by EA. They're just a more complex tamagotchi. Definitely stretching the definition of games.

@mormonwarrior: Fidelitywise I guess but I'd rather give that to DKCR. That game uses colors and animation extraordinarily well. Jungle Beat was sort of a problematic game really. Also DK's fur looked like pubic hair in that game.

D.I.C.E. is interesting. I worked it one year (setting up/tearing down) and got to hang out for a bit. I got the vibe that it was a very industry "lets have your people call my people and we'll do lunch" kind of thing. They all go golfing and junk together.
