    Sounds of Despair

    Overview

Sounds of despair are used to enhance the mood in a game, especially to make it scarier or more stressful for the player.

Horror games often add tension through sound, indicating to the player that there is danger nearby but not telling where it is, or what it might be. A distant scream or sobbing on the other side of a wall establish that something awful is happening and the player should proceed cautiously.
