Kessler Run Kast - Episode 2 (Feat. Adam Boyes)
To answer Boyes question about "who does it hurt?" Currency inflation (which is a side-effect of people being able to generate credits from cash) leads to higher and higher prices on the AH, which means anyone that doesn't buy credits have to farm more and more to buy stuff on AH. Eventually it just turns into a scenario where the only way you're actually able to participate on the AH is to buy credits.
Also, the whole "first world problems" thing. Guess what, video games are luxury items. If there's anything that's "reasonable" to have first world issues about it's luxury items.

@TheBooya:
Just came here to post pretty much this. Uncontrolled inflation is especially bad. "gold sellers" already lead to inflation, but due to it's black market nature in most MMOs the impact is somewhat limited and more controlled since a lot of people become aprehensive about buying gold then. WoW has migitated this in several ways, their vanity pet deal after initial impact the demand for them is throtled. Secondly the expansions basically reset the wealth each time. Thirdly top tier PVP/Raid gear can't be simply bought (altho there are people/guilds that will indirectly facilitate that, but again very limited in scope)
This is even more of a problem for young MMOs when people have not had the time to become wealthy and the ecenomy is still in flux. If they introduced sanctioned gold buying this early on it would fuck up things even more.
There is also a huge stigma with gamers in regards to "buying your way to success" when it comes to competitive FPS, MMOs, etc. People hate it, simple as that. some dude spent time and effort to achieve his wealth in an MMO. Marginalising your effort or skill because some dude came in and paid extra money you didn't is ... not cool with a lot of players. MMOs are competitive by nature, whether or not you participate in PvP, they are competitive even in cooperation. People are always competing in status, gear, wealth etc.
It's obviously not a simple issue and I don't do it justice with a few paragraphs. Which is why developers don't have easy solutions and can't just allow you to buy MMO bucks right off the bat in a subscription based MMO. This topic can be argued from different angles and my understanding of it is not the only valid one.
@Ares42 & @Tennmuerti - Thanks both of you guys for your great insight.
I often say things that *I* want, with the full knowledge that there is negative repercussions of what would happen if it was rolled out to everyone. My point is that IF there was a server that allowed pay-for-credit transactions (only as a test), I would join it in a heartbeat. Although I understand that inflation would have a huge negative impact, but I also know that free market economy has a way of working itself out.
Maybe it's because there is so little to purchase in the game (especially if you have gathering skills that feed your crafting habit), but I think for this game it would have LESS of an impact than other MMOs.
I'm personally a big fan of disruptive moves, and I guess I was hoping that SW:TOR would have more of them.

Gentlemen - thanks a ton for having me on! It was a blast to be a part of it.
You're a national treasure, Mr. Boyes. A Canadian national treasure.
When I was reading this I immediately assumed it was a sarcastic slight. And, being someone who enjoys snark I immediately added to it in my head. Thought I'd share ... although it is in no way intended to be an actual insult towards Mr. Boyes ... just a joke, fellas.

I was totally sincere... but also I love you. You understand my headspace.
About half way through this. Really interesting listen. Guild Ships really would be awesome. Haven't felt very social playing this game and I think that would inject a lot into it even if it was just a giant ship for everyone to run around in and not necessary that interactive.
