So yeah I just found this out which is relatively old news, but I was wondering what you all though of it's exclusion from the list which includes Call of Duty Black ops, Halo Reach, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, and God of War 3....Maybe I'm crazy but COD black ops doesn't deserve that...it's done nothing revolutionary imo...any ways what do you guys think?
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty
Game » consists of 10 releases. Released Jul 27, 2010
The first chapter in the StarCraft II trilogy focuses on the struggles of the Terran race, as seen through the eyes of Commander Jim Raynor, leader of the rebel group Raynor's Raiders.
SC2 not a GOTY candidate at VGA's
The VGAs don't count for shit anyway...it's a dumb show that doesn't really mean anything. Also, it's a western market so I'm not surprised they chose shooters over a strategy game. SC2 will be around until SC3 hits, and none of these games will be widely played a few years from now.
How anyone can care what the Spike VGA's do still confuses me to this day. That show was never a legitimate focal point of gaming.
I don't really care since these lists are way different than my own.
What they say means nothing to me
I hate the VGA's. It's like an MTV award show when we don't have an Academy Awards for video games. The VGA's does nothing but reinforce video games negative stigma.
This is the VGA's in a nutshell

It just shows how geared that network is towards the 13 year old console kiddie demographic though.
"SPIKE!!! WHAT ARE YOU A PUSSY??? WATCH OUR MACHO SHIT NOW!!!"
I do love the UFC stuff they put up occasionally and a few episodes of Ultimate Fighter though...
" The VGA's are just a popularity contest. SC2 is not as widely received as the games on that list. "yes it is
Even their candidates for best shooter category aren't even deserving. I mean where the hell is Vanquish? if there is any shooter that deserves and award for innovation and gameplay, it's that game that deserves it the most. :p
It is the draw of console gaming over PC gaming. PC games get less press and less coverage.
The issue of Game Informer that they reviewed Starcraft 2 in, which got a perfect 10, it was only the "PC game of the month" with a small box on the review section title page. Meanwhile, Halo: Reach, which got a 9.5 I think, took up the rest of the page, and it was named the "Game of the month".
It is a sad time for PC gaming, and Blizzard and Valve are the two main companies keeping it alive.
" VGAs are retarded anyway, who cares "This
The VGAs have been complete and utter shit for as long as they have been around. The only reason people pay them any mind is because they are on TV, though, they are also painfully boring to watch.
The VGAs aren't for gamers. They're for Spike execs, so they can have something to rub their dicks on as "the people that CARE about the new media vessel which are TEH GAMEZ"." StarCraft doesn't have as wide as an appeal as those other games. The VGAs aren't necessarily made for people like us... or at least they're not only for us. "
Maybe I'm crazy but COD black ops doesn't deserve that...it's done nothing revolutionary imo...any ways what do you guys think? "Didn't you answer your own question there?
People need to take into consideration numbers. SC2 simply couldn't put up the numbers that the other games could, partly because it's only on one platform, and certainly not the most popular platform. The other games mostly are multi-platform and put up LARGE numbers. The only PC-only game I could really see competing, based on numbers, would be WoW. I wouldn't be surprised if Cataclysm gets listed next year, but we'll see.
Though for no one giving a shit about the VGAs there certainly are a fair amount of people posting about them or in threads about them.
" @Doctorchimp: Not just PC gamers. I myself primarily play on my PS3 but I acknowledge that StarCraft II is fucking incredible game. I just meant that most of the people on this site aren't the 13 year old macho douche bags that you described. "
I was just getting at the fact that the VGA will snub PC games....since they aren't PC gamers.
Also where did you get that I was calling everyone who watches Spike a 13 year old? I was saying that's what Spike sells itself to the most. There's a difference.

I'm sure uncharted 2 didn't sell as well as SC2 and that won tons of awards so unless you're saying that's the vga's criteria I must say invalid point here.

And I may be mistaken here guys but I'm fairly certain that game journalists vote on some of these panels seeing as Jeff has voted for the chad for a number of years...or maybe I'm confused on the whole process.
You are right. You aren't trolling. You only came to the message board of a game, said that it isn't worthy of any rewards, and then talked about how long it was in development in a negative light. That isn't trolling. That is just being stupid." @Cataphract1014: I'm not trolling, it's the truth. Just wait and you'll see... "

Clearly a bad game.
I'm not saying it HAS to be based on numbers, but numbers speak volumes is what I'm trying to say.
As for how they're decided, here you go from 2009:
Nominees for Spike TV’s 2009 “Video Game Awards” were determined by the VGA Advisory Council, made up of a group of the most well-respected experts in the industry for leading game media outlets such as GameTrailers.com, Game Informer, USA Today, Wired, Penny Arcade, GameSpot and IGN. Games released between December 2, 2008 and November 23, 2009 were eligible for nomination.
" So yeah I just found this out which is relatively old news, but I was wondering what you all though of it's exclusion from the list which includes Call of Duty Black ops, Halo Reach, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, and God of War 3....Maybe I'm crazy but COD black ops doesn't deserve that...it's done nothing revolutionary imo...any ways what do you guys think? "None of those games did anything revolutionary, they were all sequels that built slightly on previous entries in a series. Which Starcraft arguably did more than any of these except maybe God of War 3.
I agree that it should be in but I also understand that RTS games don't really work outside of the RTS crowd.
SC2 not being nominated shows this thing is obviously rigged and it will be a crime if Mass Effect 2 isn't GOTY.

" Since when are the VGAs credible at all? This is Spike. The same people that bring you Manswers and only play movies with a lot of explosions and half naked women. "Hey this is also the same network that plays nothing but Star Wars for a whole weekend so don't totally damn them, just partially damn them.
