Hey guys. I just started playing SF4 ( I know I'm late to the party, but I'm hoping to get into it more by the time SSF4 comes out) I was just wondering which character you would suggest I play.  I feel weird about Ken and Ryu because a lot of people consider them cheap or over used. Let me know what you think.

Use Dan, he's the best character in the game.

which console do you play it on ? becuase there are separate groups of users who play on the different consoles

1. go online and watch some videos to see what characters you think you might like
2. head into the challenges and try some of the normal trials for the characters you're considering. The 5 normal trials are a pretty good indication of what the character has to offer and it will teach you the character's basics (bread & butter combos, special moves, super/ultra)

" @The_Decemberist: All the Shotos (Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Sagat) are typically a starting point but on the other hand, there are a lot of them out there. The best way to get an idea for what works best for you would be either: 

1. go online and watch some videos to see what characters you think you might like
2. head into the challenges and try some of the normal trials for the characters you're considering. The 5 normal trials are a pretty good indication of what the character has to offer and it will teach you the character's basics (bread & butter combos, special moves, super/ultra)

I thought Dhalsim was more obvious. And since he's on PS3 you could have mirror matches with me. Those are fun, especially with Dhalsim.   I wouldn't really know where a good starting point is, but I've yet to play an awesome El Fuerte. If you want a good starting character, Ryu, Balrog, Ken, and Rufus are solid choices. But really just play around with everyone, do some normal trials, and see who you like.

Play as Sagat if you want to kick some ass really easily.

i just got started too, and i've been experimenting with a lot of characters to see who i want to main, and so far, Ryu and Ken have been pretty easy to pick up, but I am siding towards C. Viper, because she is pretty easy to get used to quick and her moves don't have a ton of range, but they work well

Just play around with a few of the characters in Arcade and choose based on whoever's style you like most. Saying that, I've been playing the game for a year, and I've only just settled on 3 that way.

Theres little more satisfying in this game for me than seeing a sagat get his ass beat by a little girl. Very justifying.

I mean, if you look at it by a technical standpoint, almost all of her moves are pretty easy to hit, and the high jump that she has can be useful in combinations with the flame kick...  I mean, this is going to sound crazy, but I have a diasbility, so I am playing with one hand, and so the moves that she has are easy for me to hit. "
