There's been a pretty significant update to the Crafting system of TF2 today. Valve have added dozes of new recipes, possibly recipes for creating every item in the game and even reduced the number of items needed to craft hats.
Here are a couple of the new recipes
Crafting any 2 weapons wielded by the same class now gives 1 Scrap Metal
3 tokens can give 1 reclaimed metal
Bonk! Atomic Punk + Kritzkrieg = Bonk! Crit-a-Cola
Chargin' Targe + Razorback = Gunboats
Bonk! Atomic Punk + Sandvich = Dalokoh's Bar
Equalizer + Eyelander = Homewrecker
Sandman + Scrap Metal = Pain Train
There's also a recipe that can change a certain Scout hat into a different Scout Hat. I really hope that dozens of these recipes show up
Fabricate Bonk Helmet is the Batter's helmet + 2 x Bonk Energy Drink
I know that a majority of people don't care about the hats or the crafting system in general but I'm so happy that I can use this to get some new stuff that I might actually want. I just wish I hadn't used so many of my crafting items last weekend. Could have made them go a lot further this way.

Crafting Update
I really had no idea you could craft those.
I found Dalokoh's Bar and the Homewrecker. Thanks for the head's up. I have plenty of extras sitting in my backpack.
" Damn it's finally not utterly useless, great. Maybe I can go make a hat now. "How do you get base items? I just started playing.
" @CharlieTuna said:They randomly pop in when you're playing. It's not a very good system." Damn it's finally not utterly useless, great. Maybe I can go make a hat now. "How do you get base items? I just started playing. "
" @The_Laughing_Man said:Ive only gotten a few weapon and that is it. None of the items." @CharlieTuna said:They randomly pop in when you're playing. It's not a very good system. I was confused about the update so I decided to check the TF2 forums where I found all this stuff out. I really wish I'd found out about this update the day before, I could have finally got myself a pair of lovely gunboats by now :(

Its funny how the crafting systems random drop cheats us in different ways. I've gotten 5 random gunboat drops since they patched them in, but not a single hat (unless you count the ghastly gibbous or the cheaters lament) :( After playing the game for a total of 500 hours I feel like I should have at least one
Don't complain about the Texas Ten Gallon, that thing looks awesome
I've played this game a lot and still only got 1 refined metal, 1 reclaimed metal and 1 scrap metal from my crafting. God damn it takes a while to get anything to drop now. It will take forever to make a hat.
I did however get 2 tokens a while ago for whatever reason, stupid me. Guess ill put that to good use now.
I just crafted my first hat and I got the wielding helmet for the engi that has flames on it. I think its called the hot rod. Hooray for only needing items for scrap metal!
" @ajamafalous: If they ever implement the trading system I'll totally trade you for that one if you don't like it :) I love texas stuff! "Oh man, Hot Rod is totally the one I wanted, too.
I just crafted a pain train and I've been using it on my soldier along with the gunboats to create all sorts of mayhem back-capping points. Its a lot of fun!
" @CharlieTuna said:As captain obvious said you can get them randomly. You will see a new item pop up when you die, but I'm sure you've already figured that out right now. TF2 does a random dice roll to the determine the amount of time until you get a drop. When that time arrives another dice roll (a very big dice with lots of numbers) determines which item you'll get." Damn it's finally not utterly useless, great. Maybe I can go make a hat now. An alternative way to get items is unlocking achievements. There are 38 or so achievements for each class (except engi). Unlocking a certain amount (I think 7 or so) will give you a random item or weapon for that class. You can do this three times.
