 Tecmo is a Japanese game developer founded in 1966 under the name of Tehkan Ltd. Starting out as supplier of technical cleaning equipment, made its way over selling amusement machines and ended up as software developer. Games released by Tehkan Ltd. include such illustrous titles as Bomb Jack  and  Star Force. In 1986, Tehkan Ltd. changed its name to Tecmo and went on to release successful games and franchises such as Dead or Alive, Monster Rancher and Ninja Gaiden. On August 29, 2008, it was announced that Square Enix Co. Ltd. has placed an offer to purchase a majority stake of Tecmo in a deal which would be worth over $200 million dollars (US). However, Tecmo declined the offer from Square Enix, and announced that it was in talks to merge with fellow Japanese developer KOEI Co. Ltd .
