Today I was ably to slay both the Eye of Cthulu and the Eater of Worlds. the Eye wasn't too bad but the Eater of Worlds scared the hell out of me, I pissed it off by breaking an orb in the Corruption area and it just came out of nowhere, 20 minutes later I slayed the thing with one last slash from my purple Lightsaber, but it simultaneously killed me. I still got some demonite ore and a Flail though so it was ok. Now I have a sweet helmet to match the sweet Mace Windu Lightsaber.
Anyone else had some crazy encounters with bosses?

The first major 2D entry into the world of "open world" sandbox action-adventure games, Terraria is inspired by 16-bit platformers and allows players to mine for ores, craft new equipment, and fight monstrous bosses in a large procedurally-generated world.
Killed any of the bosses yet?
My first ever Eye of Cthulhu attempt was a disaster, second one was a learning experience, third one was a triumph. Same basic pattern for Skeletron. Devourer is pretty easy, since dying doesn't stop him: Worst-case scenario, you can brute-force it. Of course, once your gear reaches a certain level, all three of them become fairly trivial: a Fiery Greatsword goes a long way. I'm hopeful about new content in the future.
Eye of Cthulhu spawned on me early on, even though I didn't summon it. I didn't die, but at the time I didn't really have any weapons to defeat it, so it just disappeared in the morning.
Eater of Worlds was extremely easy with the Ball 'O Hurt, and Skeletron wasn't too bad either. I'm happy I had remembered to stock up on healing potions though. Damn zombies kept spawning during boss fights.
Downed all three solo. Fire imps are worse though. If you are having trouble with Fire Imps I highly recommend trying to get a Cobalt Shield.
The knockback is the worst part about them, if you have one of these suckers though you can pretty much ignore them completely and just chug potions then kill them when they teleport up close. Ever since I found one of these exploring the Underworld has been significantly easier.

i am 17 hours in and have yet to see a boss, so i just keep digging downwards, there's lava all around now but still basically just skeletons and mother slimes. also, i've built several houses above ground and below and they meet the requirements of being a house or whatever but no one is moving in, anyone got any suggestions on how to get people to move in?
Guide is acquired at start of level.
Merchant is acquired when any 1 player has 50 silver coins.
Nurse is acquired when you have found and used a crystal heart.
Demolitionist is acquired when you have found a stick of dynamite.
Arms Dealer is aquired when you have a gun in your inventory.
Dryad is acquired when you have beaten a boss.
Old Man is found at the entrance of a dungeon. |
Killed both the worm and eye several times, just gearing up a bit more for skeletron. So easy to just get sidetracked for hours in this game though. I keep telling myself to make a hellevator and get some hellstone mining going but midway down I hit the jungle or blow myself up in a spectacular fashion (really need to remove tnt from my quickbar).
@Origina1Penguin: np it's perfect. i have 50 silver coins and i have found and used a crystal heart, a few actually and still no merchant or nurse, i'm gonna have a read around that site, thanks for the link! You have to build a proper house for them. If the ceiling is too low, they won't move in.
I've heard they are working on adding a Hydra as a boss as well, nothing confirmed, but a youtuber who got early access to the game suggested it, and the devs said they liked the idea, so probably some new bosses soon. I haven't had the time to play it, only half an our in or so, so sadly, haven't even encountered one.
I hope they add questgiver NPCs, and the difficulty/reward of the quest is contingent on the quality of the house you build to spawn them. And I mean quest in a more abstract sense, like "build your castle to the moon" or "dig to the other side of the world". Which I guess would require them to make it possible to reach the moon, and to dig to the other side of the world.
@ribeye said:I've done that, as far as i can tell they meet the requirements and they're plenty big, that guide dude that's there in the beginning moved into one, i just can't seem to get new people to move in....@Origina1Penguin: np it's perfect. i have 50 silver coins and i have found and used a crystal heart, a few actually and still no merchant or nurse, i'm gonna have a read around that site, thanks for the link! You have to build a proper house for them. Haha. Man, When I have my Gold armor finished I need to find a kickass server to get killed on. That looks like a blast.
But no, I haven't killed any bosses yet. The Eye Of Cuthulu spawned on me once or twice, and I tried to kill it with a Gold Broadsword, but I could barely get it to 2000.
I've got a stack of 200 shuriken and the enchanted boomerang now. I'm ready.

Like, you can make a building that looks to have 4 complete sides, but you need to have walls in the "background" with the house in the "foreground." Check this out if you're still confused: http://terraria.wikia.com/wiki/Background
The houses also need to be large enough, so try expanding if that doesn't work. I think 5x7 is the minimum. Oh, and make sure you place a door, a torch, a chair, and a table in your house to attract NPCs. Hope that helps!

- Has walls (including background walls. These can be anything but dirt.)
- Has a table and chair
- Has a door (each NPC demands his or her own door; shared doors don't count)
- Has a light source - eg. a torch
- A minimum height and width (respectively) of 5 blocks high by 7 blocks wide.
Those residents are so of the snobbery class! As for why they have dirt walls, probably for design reason in case anyone wanted to make some funky things and it'd be odd not being able to tear down the dirt walls when you can wreck everything else. Anywho, it wasn't very clear... but that is the way of 95% of the game, so don't feel bad! Go forth with your new knowledge and pluuuuunder!

I have once piece but it seems the drop rate is really low!, ive killed so many hornets and man eaters!
I also looted the rocket boots yesterday from the Goblin armour...i wish i had more armour, flying in Terraria is intense.
