Furiously Addicting but a Ton of Fun.

Hard to believe you start off with just a pick and an axe.

Terraria is a hard game to classify, it’s also a hard game to spell but that’s all beside the point, Terraria is great fun, painfully addicting, and has a ton of depth both literally and figuratively. Most of all, it sets itself apart from the other crafting games out there right now to put together one simple, easy to pick up,  and fun to play experience that’ll keep you busy for dozens and dozens of hours. It’s a charming experience, one that’ll stick with you for some time, or one that you’ll stick with for some time considering all the ideas the developer has for adding to this game, it’s something you can constantly go back to, or do when you’ve got a couple hours to kill.

Let’s start off by saying this, this game is much more than just a 2D version of Minecraft, but then at the same time, this game wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for Minecraft’s success.  On top of its building aspect there are plenty of dungeons, armors to craft, bosses to find and destroy, treasure chests, lightsabers to get, jetpacks/hover boots to make, and grappling hooks to forge. There’s a lot to do in this game and it would take you anywhere from 10-100 hours to get the full experience out of it, there’s a day and night cycle and during the night time is when your shelter you’ve made really becomes useful. During the night is when all the dangerous enemies come out and you have to protect both you and any NPC’s that have made their way to live in your little settlement you’ve built for yourself. Now this whole idea is pretty much ripped straight from Minecraft and it’s hard writing anything on this game without mentioning it once or twice, I mean even the materials move and shift the same as they do in Minecraft and torches are used throughout, the signs look the exact same and so on, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing because Terraria takes all these ideas and only builds on top of them, gives you objectives, goals and loot to work for.

There’s just a ton of things to do in this game for the 10$ price tag and chances are, once it gets its hooks into you, you’ll replay it quite a few times just to see how much they change up these randomly generated worlds. The list goes on and on, but the point is, if this is your kind of game then you’ll be playing it for a long time to come. This isn’t a game for everyone, and if it wasn’t your type of game before than this won’t change a lot of people’s minds, it does a lot different sure, and it builds on top of that same format but it’s still that same type of game.

Keep an eye out for copper, gold, silver or iron ores to mine!

All in all, I’ve enjoyed every minute I played of Terraria, be it it's simple but charming and cute artstyle, its catchy music that you'll never get tired of hearing, that drive you get to catch and find and forge everything, be it just sitting there and digging a hole straight down for 2 hours, or killing the giant flying eye of Cthulu, this is a massive game that builds upon the ideas laid out by Minecraft all the while crafting its own identity in the downloadable space. I’ve found it very hard as of late to sit and play most games all the way through, but with Terraria I couldn’t stop playing, it had that Civilization feel to it with just one more turn, or one more foot down into the earth to reach hell, or one more foot up to reach heaven. Its set the standard for the downloadable title and just how much content a game can hold and every single second of it is furiously addicting and a ton of fun to play. If I’m allowed one gripe, one complaint, it’s that the multiplayer component has not been fully and completely added in yet, there’s no Steam support, no friends inviting and whatnot. It’s all IP based which isn’t the biggest deal but it’s a hassle to set up and needlessly complicated for a game as simple as this.

      No, it's not minecraft. 0

This game is very unique and fun, despite people constantly referring to it as a minecraft rip-off. With the "you dig, you craft it's minecraft" generalization. Although it has similarities to the elements of minecraft basics, in 2D. The gist of the game do not tie together to minecraft at all, however you may play it as a 2D minecraft if you wish. You start out by having a set of copper tools ready at hand, destroying a tree that collapses, collecting resources to craft a workbench. Then stone ...

      Fun with friends. 0

It's easy to say Terraria is 2D minecraft, and hell I think I've said that to several people who have asked me about it, but it's much more than that. It takes minecraft concepts and puts a real game around it (a fun one at that). You do all the minecraft things like chopping down trees, smashing up stones, and building a shelter, but you end up exploring massive dungeons with boss fights, discovering underground forests, and using your jetpack to fly a floating island. This game has depth! I...
