    Overview

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan is a cinematic horror adventure game developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on August 30, 2019.

A spiritual successor to the studio's 2015 game Until Dawn, Man of Medan is the first in a series of grimdark horror stories known as The Dark Pictures. Players are tasked by the mysterious Curator (with the voice and likeness of actor Pip Torrens) to finish the tale, with their actions deciding the fate of the story's main characters.

After a prologue involving a group of World War II soldiers succumbing to mysterious hauntings on their ship, the story of Man of Medan follows the present-day crew of the dive boat Duke of Milan (brothers Brad and Alex, Alex's girlfriend Julia, Julia's brother Conrad, and ship captain "Fliss") as they investigate a submerged World War II plane wreck off the French Polynesia, only to be kidnapped by a group of pirates and forced to board the fabled ghost ship Ourang Medan as hostages. As they try to escape the pirates, the crew must not only find a way off the ship, but survive against hauntings of their own.

Similar to Until Dawn, the game focuses on timed dialogue choices, quick time events, and third-person exploration, and the game has no losing condition (as the story proceeds to the end, even after the death of a player character) and multiple endings. Each playable character can have multiple dialogue options per playthrough based on their personality traits and relationship with other characters (both of which can be altered through dialogue). The game also includes two multiplayer modes: "Shared Story" (an online mode where each of the two players controls their own player character at the same time) and "Movie Night" (an offline mode where players pass a controller between them).

The game was later followed up with The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope.
