Skyrim is officially one month away. The sequel to my favorite game of all time is one month away. I am so fucking excited I can barely contain myself. Can you believe Oblivion came out over five and a half years ago?

I wish I could like Oblivion as much as some people do, or even at all.
I always get this feeling when a ton of people love a game I can't get into at all, I feel so left out. : (
The solution to this problem is the same solution to all problems: PC mods! :)
That said, what was your problem with Oblivion? D:

I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate the combat soooo much, I don't think it works well at all. D:
Couple that with a general distaste for fantasy settings and you have a game that apparently wasn't made for me. : (
Maybe I didn't try the right mods or something?
I'm extremely excited as well. Only Bethesda games have the power to make me fap to leaked game manuals.
I only started enjoying Oblivion earlier this year, but when I did, oh boy...
35 hours of complete joy. Bethesda are fucking game masters. I stopped because hey, the game's too old and too long, but im DEFINITELY buying Skyrim day one.
My life is over starting November 11. Good thing is my semester is going to end like 2 weeks after that then I have a little over a month for Winter break.
Ugh, 5 and a half years ago? I remember leaving High School to pick up my PC copy. My PHYSICAL PC copy.
But yeah, my body is ready.
@Cloudenvy:
It's ok! It was sort of a "had to be there when it came out" sort of thing, just like morrowind.
When morrowind came out on the Xbox, I was in middle school, and playing it (modless) was the CRAZIEST experience I had ever had before.
Just be in the moment and enjoy the living shit out of skyrim!

This fact horrifies me, because it not only reminds me how old I am but also how long the Xbox 360 has been a thing. It also marks 5 and a half years of Morrowind elitism.
In any case, of course I am pumped. It does come out the week of my birthday after all.
Wow, has it really been that long? I honestly can't believe that! I mean I built a PC this year, it's great. But the last time I upgraded my former PC (and that's upgraded, not bought)? When Oblivion came out. Going from a Radeon X850 Pro to a GTX 570 is quite a leap, I'll tell you. And yeah of course I've had other computers between those, but they've all been macs.

I know the solution to this problem. Maybe you like your fantasy a bit darker? Should solve both your dislike of the combat and 'silly fantasy wizards' issues.

Morrowind is still my favorite PC game of all time. Oblivion just didn't do it for me. Looking forward to Skyrim though.
Oblivion was one of those games that helped to push me into getting a console. I had been a PC gamer, but just didn't feel like upgrading my system again. So I bought the 360. I haven't really been disappointed since. Oblivion was a fantastic game at the time. Clearly not for everyone. Still, for memorable moments and settings, I'm sometimes surprised how much of Oblivion I can remember given how long it's been since I played it.
Skyrim looks good. We'll see if the gameplay holds up. It looks like they've done a good bit of streamlining and modernizing. That could be great, or ... not. Dragon Age 2 still haunts my nightmares.
@jorbear..And now I'm punching myself for not being a Starcraft player.Hell, it's about time.Life off.
Game on.
Fuck you, jimbo.
As a big Morrowind fan, I found Oblivion incredibly disappointing..
But I'm really hyped after watching the demo footage, it seems a lot of my issues have been fixed (even if I still hate that damned Jack Sparrow compass). I'm really hoping Skyrim can be the game Oblivion should have been.
I know exactly how you feel. I loved the world of Oblivion but the actual gameplay was just so boring to me I couldn't play it. I've given that game so many chances, I want to love it, but I just can not.I wish I could like Oblivion as much as some people do, or even at all.
I always get this feeling when a ton of people love a game I can't get into at all, I feel so left out. : (
The combat makes no sense to me. Why do some things die in one hit, then others I have to move backwards attacking forwards for like 20 minutes until it dies? Even people who love the game admit the actual combat mechanics are mediocre, so I just don't get it.
Same problem with Fallout. Same problem with New Vegas. And I'm sure I'll have the same problem with Skyrim, which I am sure I will get, because damnit I want to enjoy these games.
Edit: I've tried mods, didn't really add to my enjoyment.
I feel like I'm being tricked by Skyrim. I loved the concept of playing Oblivion... but I never actually liked playing Oblivion. However, all this promotional stuff leading up to its release has got me super excited about Skyrim.
If they've improved the combat, and made it less repetitive then I'm in... otherwise, I think I'll have to pass. Less closing gates, more Dark Brotherhood please.
I really want to love this game as much as I loved Fallout 3.

Dude I'm so fired up. I built my first PC ever recently just for Skyrim because I loved the Oblivion experience on that platform. To think I barely knew or cared for Elders Scrolls until that fateful day back in Feb or March 2006 when I heard the Gaming Steve podcast talk about the game. I picked it on launch day and was blown away beyond words.
It's one of those games that if I was in middle or high school I'd eat, sleep, and live that game while writing shitty fanfics and drawing pictures of my character's adventures in Cyrodiil.
