The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. Only the player, as the prophesied hero the Dovahkiin, can save the world from destruction.
Yo, Greg Kasavin is Doing Another Elder Scrolls Marathon!
Greg's work back at Gamespot was amazing. In my opinion beyond anything any video game journalist has achieved.
Unfortunately I missed his 12 hour marathon of Oblivion at the time because it was "members only" or the equivalent for Gamespot.
Though I'm a member here now, I'm really glad Giant Bomb is making this open for everyone. I sure hope they archive it in full though as opposed to Gamespot, which only put up a highlights video.
I find it completely befuddling people are worried about Skyrim spoilers. Bethesda has never produced a story or series of events that I'd ever consider worthy of spoiling.
@phrosnite: It's not worth $50, it's worth $60. Haha!
Can't wait for this! I want to wait until a while after release to watch it (like most), but I have a feeling my temptations will get the best of me.
Thanks for all the support guys! Hard to believe the Oblivion thing was, what, six years ago... but it was a lot of fun and got a great response so this seemed too good to pass up. And besides, much like with Oblivion I just plan on playing the hell out of this game anyway, regardless of whether or not there's a live stream going.
Let me know if you have any requests on stuff to do or look for during the game! I'll see what I can do.
As with Oblivion I'll likely do some of the critical-path story stuff, but not too much so as not to spoil anything, and then basically wander and cause mayhem when it seems (least) appropriate. My tendency is to be melee-focused characters in these types of games though I'll try to dabble in different stuff. You know, backstabbing, destruction magic.

Awesome! Any chance could talk Logan Cunningham into narrating some of your playthrough? Pretty sure that would solidify your place in internet history. Forever. Just saying.
As the story is always the least interesting aspect of the Elder Scrolls games (it's all about open-world exploration and combat for me) I'll definitely be watching this since my 360 copy of Skyrim won't arrive until Friday afternoon (I'm still currently contemplating buying the PC version on Steam as well since since that one unlocks on 11/10 at 11pm for my time zone).
If it's going to be archived, I'd say it's going to end up on YouTube (which for this specific occasion, it's fine with me). Think of the bandwidth if it was uploaded here, even if it was cut into a bunch of parts.

They have 100 hours of gameplay from 1 specific game archived here so I wouldn't rule it out.
Whiskey Media's been getting more stingy with this kind of stuff; switching to a YouTube player for free users is a good example.@RoyCampbell said:

Greg Kasavin just posted in my thread. I shall die happy now.
@GregK: If there is one thing we all want, is that if you could find a way to archive it. Maybe through Justin.TV?
It's too precious to let go like that.
Very good point. I think a lot of TES fans don't want the first 12 hours "spoiled", but at the same time watch it at a later point since it's the awesome @GregK playing. I'll watch it live for sure, but an archived version would be a very good idea!

and limiting the YouTube clips to 360P is just an insult to free users.
No kidding. I'm scared as fuck I won't have the $5 to pay every month to keep the video quality decent.@RoyCampbell said:

The GB videos on YouTube used to be above 360p but subscribers cried foul and the video quality was downgraded on purpose. I don't know about you but that's fucking gross.

I always love watching this stuff while taking a dump. I just hate that they make the replays a premium feature. You would think the live stream would be premium and the replay is free.
A live stream costs Whiskey no money, bandwith for archives however does. Makes totally sense.
I will be watching this because I think this game looks super cool but I am having a hard time convincing myself to buy it because Oblivion felt like a swords and sorcery mod for fallout 3 and that made me have a hard time trying to get into it. Its because I played Fallout 3 first.
