    Overview

The Goonies is a 1985 side-scrolling platform-puzzle game for various 8-bit home computers such as the Atari 8-Bit, Spectrum ZX and Commodore 64. Each level is loosely based on specific events from the movie and has the player solving puzzles and overcoming obstacles as a pair of characters from the film. The player is required to use both characters in tandem to hit switches and distract enemies. It has often been credited as a precursor to modern team based puzzlers such as "The Lost Vikings".

The game should not be confused with the Konami adaptation for NES, Famicom Disk System and MSX. While functionally similar - the Goonies traverse the caverns underneath the Fratellis' hideout to find One-Eyed Willy's pirate hoard as a side-scrolling 2D platformer - the gameplay is focused on just Mikey as he rescues the other Goonies from captivity. The sequel to that game, The Goonies II, is not associated with this home computer version.
