lazyturtle's The Sims 3 (Wii) review

    I was expecting something more...polished.

I don't have a long history with the Sims.  I've only played The Sims 2: Castaway (also on the Wii)...so my review isn't tinged by fond memories.

The game itself runs VERY poorly on the Wii. I can hear the disk running nearly constantly (which doesn't happen on other games) and the game takes lots of little 3-10 second pauses while it loads things. Its very disruptive to the flow. At first I thought the disk was scratched, but no..it was in perfect condition. The game also hard freezes the Wii console from time to time. You literally have to unplug it. I'd also really like the be able to switch to a different Sim while the taxi is taking me someplace or even better..be able to speed up the time while the taxi is driving. In fact, I'd like to be able to make time go even faster than the fast speed..I really don't care to watch the Sim sleep.

Visually..it looks like most other Wii games (that is to say like crap). I have a GIGANTIC HD TV... totally wasted on this console. I realize that the Wii doesn't support HD, but it looks pretty much like my Xbox (original) or PS2. Its not exactly a selling point.

Gameplay wise...I'm not really sure what the big draw is. I mean its a game about..being alive? I honestly feel a bit like a loser playing it..you know going to work, paying bills, using the bathroom: all the things I procrastinate on in my real life. That being said it is somewhat addictive in a mindless way. I'm glad I rented it.
There is also little to no direction provided with the game. Want to be a doctor? Its up to you to go through all the menus  and figure out what needs to be done.  I don't necessarily mind that..but I like to build my characters to a role when I game. Thats just how I like it.

There also aren't very many people wandering around the Simtown...you have to really search for people to interact with. This is somewhat annoying when you've got a goal of interacting with someone..but can't find anyone.  Some careers require you to interact with co-workers..you've got to leave work early and wait for them..otherwise they're gone.

Perhaps the game is more complete and fun on the PC...but on the Wii I would either rent it or pick it up really cheap (less than $15 IMO)
