A fun brawler that shows that not every movie adaptation sucks

The best thing about The Warriors is that when by playing it feels like a good old fashioned brawler, but what is surprising is that is one of the few titles in this genre that works really good in 3D, and pays homage not to the games it takes inspiration from but also to the movie on which it's based.

Story wise the game picks up just at the beginning of the film, at the gangs reunion, but then goes back to expand on the Warriors mythos explaining how they came to be, and the way they got enough recognition to get invited to the gangs meeting. This is done with the help of some in engine cutscenes and a really terrific acting, in most cases done by the same actors that performed this carachters in the movie.

One of the most surprising things about this game is how little time you spend recreating the events of the movie, as those only are 5 of the game's 13 levels and it also shows the respect for the source material that Rockstar had when making this game.

The fighting is really easy to get into but feels just right, every character has a specific moveset that reflects their personality, and some very cool special attacks and finishing moves. The other important aspect of the games combat is how you can use almost anything as a weapon, ranging from stones and knives to baseball bats and broken bottles.

The game also has drop in and out co-op, and while it may seem to be strangely implemented as it switches from a split screen view to a shared screenwhen the two characters are close to one another, it works fine and gives the title some replayability.

This is a game that shines because of its attention to detail, from the way you can pick up enemies hats and put them on, the various minigames that are required to perform certain actions (i.e. stealing a car's radio), and the game's very accurate soundtrack.

Finally, one of the coolest unlockables after you finish the game is a very old school style game called armies of the night, that is actually a side scrolling brawler very similar to double dragon and final fight, and it works perfctly as an excuse to come back to the game even after beating the main story.
