To start off, why does everyone complain about the "eXperimental" part on the end? Flying more than one jet in a squadron is experimental, as well as the fact that many planes (YF-12, YF-23) in the game are experimental prototypes.
HAWX is a flying game that is on par with others in the genre. For the most part, it feels very similar to playing Ace Combat 6.
Pros:
-Realistic Scenarios: HAWX has you doing missions that a real fighter pilot would be performing in areas that really exist. The game also uses impressive satellite technology to make the area look as realistic as possible. When flying in Brazil, it actually looks like Brazil. Washington, D.C. has all the correct landmarks in the correct places. The game is excellently presented.
-Co-op/Multiplayer: The co-op in HAWX is jumpi-in/jump-out which really helps when you want to play with others, but can't arrange schedules. The multiplayer is a fun diversion, and although Team Deathmatch is the only gameplay mode, I haven't heard anyone mention any other modes that sounded any fun (most people don't even try to think of any to add) and that is a significant bit more than others in the genre.
-OFF mode: The OFF mode pulls the camera back into third person and focuses on the selected target. While this takes some getting used to, it allows for much tighter maneuvering than a normal jet and is a lot of fun to use.
Cons:
-Repetitive Modes: The lack of multiplayer variety and the similarity in the missions mean that the replay value is diminished slightly. However, Ubisoft has promised DLC for the game so that may be rectified in the future.
I give this game an 8.5 out of 10.
