A Good Game, But Not The Most Comfortable Ride 0

I've seen the rise and fall and rise of the Tomb Raider series over the years, but I never got into the games myself. Either I didn't have the technology for it or I just didn't have the interest. I don't really have any attachment to the series is what I'm saying. So when this newest reboot came along and was well-received, I just shrugged and though 'Cool, glad to hear it, but no interest level'. Years go by, new consoles arrive and although I am a bit late in hopping to the Xbox One, I'm sti...

Tomb Raider review - a successful reboot 0

Reboots and re-imaginings seem to be all the rage across both Hollywood and the video games industry these days, and if there’s one heroine who was due such treatment then it was probably Lara Croft. Back in her PlayStation heyday she was the star of bona-fide triple-A titles on a consistent basis, but after several missteps it seemed it was time for developer Crystal Dynamics to take Lara back to the drawing board and make her relevant again. The result is not only a Lara Croft that we&rs...

Much like Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan’s rebooted Batman trilogy (2005-2012), Croft has reached legendary status. 0

After the franchise peak with Core Design's Tomb Raider II (1997), the series fizzled via redundant sequels and mediocrity. Then came Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend (2006) with Lara Croft's creator, Toby Gard and new developer Crystal Dynamics at the helm. Legend revived the franchise with a much needed new engine, powered by the same technology used in Crystal Dynamics' Soul Reaver series. This revision of Croft in Tomb Raider (2013) is her most engaging in the franchise.Croft is now portrayed...

    Tomb Raider 0

Decided to finally tackle this franchise after my recent Uncharted series replay. Tomb Raider doesn't match the polish of those games, or even approach it, but the game is fun in its own right.Traversal is fine, though not nearly as smooth as more modern games or as the UC series. Gunplay is fine, getting better later in the game. I enjoy using the signature bow.The environments are great and the setting is enjoyable. The plot outline and the island concept are fun, but the story loses me in so...

Solid narrative-driven action game that sometimes suffers from excessive hand-holding. 0

Every form of work put forth is ultimately part of the context in which it was conceived, be it some kind of artistic creation or simply something that serves a more objective nature. Sure for me video-games are, in one way or another, an art form in its own right, but that's hardly a consensus and neither should really be. The original Tomb Raider and many subsequent iterations in the series had their place in the 90's, probably the last decade in human history to be completely free of any cha...

    Brave New Tomb Raider 0

This is a long review. It has four sections: History, Pros, Cons, Conclusion. Feel free to skip the parts that don't interest you.Introduction: Some History Tomb Raider was one of my favorite PSX series. It stood out not only for its female protagonist (unusual for the time) but also for being one of the first truly 3D platformers that also incorporated action and puzzle-solving. For their time, the first two games are the best in the series, while Tomb Raider III and IV are solid games in their...

Tomb Raider, A worthy successor if not a bit underwhelming in the "Tomb Raiding" aspect that is! 0
