    Overview

    The Tower of Babel is an ancient tower of Babylon (modern-day Iraq). In biblical mythology, it is written about in the Book of Genesis. All of humanity, speaking a single tongue, gathered on the plains of Shinar in order to build a tower that would reach the heavens. God, finding this behavior troublesome, punished humanity for this act by confounding their speech, causing humanity to fracture into factions based on language. Unable to carry on with the construction of the tower, the people spread out across the world.
