Founded in 1989 by Paul Reiche III and Fred Ford, Toys For Bob is a small California-based developer. In the early 1990's they had a hit in their hands with their first two games, the popular Star Control & Star Control II (They did not develop the third game in the franchise.) After this, they went on to develop some lesser known titles for Crystal Dynamics until 2002.
In 2005 they were purchased by Activision. After working on a Tony Hawk game for Wii and a couple of licensed titles they took a gamble in 2011 on the game Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. A first of its kind title that used real world toy figures and put them in the game as playable characters.
This game spawned 3 sequels (announced) to date and created a new genre that other developers are emulating.
