    Trine Review

Trine is a 2-D platformer in a 3-D world with a puzzle twist. In a kingdom there is a strange artifact that gets touched by three different individuals at about the same time. What happens next is sort of a mystery. The thief, the magic user, and the warrior all have their spirits fused together. You will be utilizing all of their skills as you try to get to the bottom of what is going on as well as trying to locate the artifacts of the guardians.

Graphically this game is gorgeous. The attention to detail and the depth that is present in the levels is amazing. The character models look smooth, you can see that a lot of work went into them. The layout of the levels will give you a lot to come back to, but at the same time if you want to be thorough you have plenty to explore.

The narrator of the game makes you feel like your watching a fairy tale movie, it just fits. The music in the levels aren't going to bring you out of the game, but will enhance your gaming experience. The voices of the characters, and their lines are sometimes a bit iffy, but overall a strong performance had by all.

The controls are pretty straight forward. You're going to use the WASD to move around and the mouse to attack, aim, use magic, and such. I'm kind of curious to see how well this game translates to consoles as this configuration is the one for the PC. One nit-picky little thing is that there are 2 keys to make you jump and for some reason I feel that if I press both of them that I'll jump a little bit higher, but this actually really screws up your character's movement.

As stated before you will be taking on the controls of 3 different individuals in one. You'll be able to switch characters on the fly, and use those characters' skills to get through a level. The one really interesting thing about this game is how you get experience. You'll have to collect the experience potions hidden throughout the level as well as collect the potions dropped by enemies that you have killed. As you collect those experience potions you'll get closer and closer to leveling up. As you level up you'll gain points that you can distribute to your character to increase one of their skills to better help you through later levels. You'll also have to be on the lookout for treasure chests hidden through out the levels. By opening them you're either getting character specific items, or items that will become the currently selected character's. I say this as a warning. I didn't notice until almost the end of the game that I had had the thief opening all the chest so she had a great number of items. This game can sometimes seem like a game physics demo, but its so much more as well. The only issue I have with this game is that in later levels the amount of enemies spawning in one place seems to increase. You'll want to experience a level but you'll be stuck having to hack up, shoot at, or drown boxes on enemies over and over again.

This game is a must have. You'll have to use your brain to get by some of the places in the levels, but it is well worth it. With the exception of the last level this game will have you immersed in a game that you'll not want to stop playing, so my recommendation to you is if you have STEAM go get this game. It does suck that the price tag is a bit high, but to me it was worth the money. This game gets a 9.6 out of 10.

      Thrice as Nice 0

Given the current marketplace, much of gaming has come down to yearly sequels and variations on a theme. There is not a lot of room for major deviance within that system, much of the time it simply isn’t commercially viable to stray too far from what is traditionally successful. Trine stands out as a well-designed game with a refreshing gameplay mechanic; one that isn’t just a clone of so many other games on the market. While it certainly isn’t the first of its kind – Blizzard did it years ago...

Trine: Where Physics and Level Design Mesh Well 0

Right from the get-go, Trine is the sort of game that knows what it is and isn't. It is a (predominantly) downloadable game, with a modest scope and healthy, but not particularly lengthy run time. In that regard, it's not particularly different from its contemporaries on services like Steam and XBLA. What it is not, however, is a game that should be scoffed at in most any regard whatsoever. While Trine is a game with a very specific mission in mind, one devoted to delivering satisfying combat an...
