Well, I finished Dead Space 2 yesterday which has given me some time to try out Two Worlds 2, first off I did play the first one and rather enjoyed it. It was broken in more ways than one but I had fun breaking it. Now I am barely two hours into the Sequel and so far I've had one hell of a roller coaster of ups and downs in how I feel about this game and these are my impressions so far.

Graphics / Visual Style / Animation

So far the game looks pretty damn sharp, the trees and shadows are nice the modeling is Waaay better than the first, the water looks good, everything has a rather nice look to it if a bit generic. The animation is a very mixed bag while the combat looks great something about the basic movement seems off, it looks good and its smooth but something about his running animation looks strange. The lip syncing ranges from spot on, to OK, to AWFUL it really varies wildly from character to character. I like the overall look and feel it is much more...Loose than most, having the ability to move the camera around while talking is cool and unlike most games they just straight up give you semi-full character control when talking little weird but it works.

Story / Main Characters / Voice Acting

I am not sure but I believe the main character is the same guy from the first game, they do not make this in any way clear but he has the same smarmy attitude from before and it sounds like him so I am happy about that the main character from the first game would say some really sarcastic things to some really nasty people and that always struck me as funny so I look forward to more of that.

The rest of the cast I do not recognize, your rescued by a band of Orcs at the start of the game, the lady orc assassin seemed mildly interesting but the whole Orc's are now the good guys thing seems ripped straight from Gothica but its handled well here so far. The voice acting seems passable, nothing stands out so far as being Really good or Really bad, but nothing has made me reach for a screwdriver to put in my ear.

The story so far is more generic than I can shake a stick at, at two hours in I couldn't tell you what the hell is going on, all I know is that this bad dude is doing bad things to someone you care about, and you need to stop them.

    Combat / UI

Very little combat so far, and I have been sticking to swords/shield combo, I am hesitant to make final judgment on the combat, first impressions with the tutorial were pretty meh, it seemed to have little impact and again...Loose. But after going out into the world a bit I think I am coming around on it, need more time with combat.

So far this is the one thing aside from bugs/glitches that stands out as God Awful. The UI while functional, looks like Ass its like someone took a PC/Console UI and just crammed them together as hard as they could, I can only think of one way to describe it, Simplistic Chaos. Its not hard to figure out how to use it but its kinda Fugly.

    Overall

I am going to play more but I will say I have already experienced slight graphical glitches:

Getting on my horse makes the world vanish for a second or two
Theres a post blocking a bridge which you have to cut, it reappears whenever I go out of eyesight but the post I just broke is still laying there
Having everything mapped to the space bar is a terrible idea, Jump-Loot-Mount-Dismount-Opening doors all on the spacebar, anyone who plays games can tell you mapping the Jump and Use key as the same is retarded.
Horse has AWFUL controls, not as bad as the first where the horse had a mind of its own, but not far off, getting onto the horse has proven a challenge, making the horse turn from a standstill or stop requires an act of god.

While I would love to say buy or pass I haven't played near enough, but if your into games like this this seems like a no Brainer, a little sloppy but I am very interested to play more.
This is just a quick collection of what I have experienced to far if you have anything to add feel free in the comments

The horse controls aren't that bad. You can stop the horse with the right trigger(Don't know what it is on PC) and go with LT. I'm 17 hours in, level 27, and I assure you the game gets a lot better like most RPGs.

My first impressions was somewhat bad because everything in the UI was upscaled and out of picture. Then i saw a force UI option i could check and then everything was normal. I have had this game for over a month now and it's pretty good, and a huge improvement over the first game. Of course it's not "awesome" or "superb", but for what it is it's pretty good. Graphics is nice, the gameplay is decent and the overall style is decent, and it's a good package and a really good value for your money. The only thing that can feel out of place is the dialogue and the story. The main character sounds like he has smoked a whole marlboro factory, and the story is a cliche throughout. Also there are some really weird design choices in this game, like the inventory management and the difficulty in the beginning. Also the learning curve, especially on the mage class and the spells, are deep, and i mean deeeep.

Horse controls suck. Anyone defending it is stupid. But it doesn't matter, you can just run. Your dude runs fast.

@FritzDude: where is this force UI option? I haven't seen it? The game UI is half out of screen for me

It is the guy from the first game (though it's pretty inconsequential).  Horse controls are indeed terrible (the Mount/Jump thing is particularly enraging), but I only bothered riding in that one side mission.

I think you should probably check out the magic system - it's one of the strongest parts of the game.

I don't get why I am still playing this game, but I am.  I mean, it has some terrible problems and minute to minute I'm not having fun.  There's just some invisible force not letting me quit.  Guess I'm a sucker for a big open world (and this game has a nice looking one).

The main thing (other then the voice acting, from time to time) that put me off the first hour when playing Two Worlds II (love saying that title btw) were cassara's nipple's. Which are huge, i mean come on....... i could just see the excited nerdy graphic designer, that came up with that. And now i cant ever EVER, stop looking at them. But yeah so far im liking the game, despite the  hideous UI, and the cheesy voice acting from time to time. It shares a lot of similarities  with Risen which is also a title that i enjoyed.

Weird you say that, I could never make it work. Later on I used summoning, but for most of the game I would toggle between an archer class and melee class. This game's biggest innovation imo is being able to quickly switch between 3 unique sets, not just your weapon but every bit of armor and accessory. You can literally have 3 completely separate specialists at your disposal. It makes no lore sense but who gives a fuck, it makes a ton of gameplay sense.

@ryanwho: Yeah, I liked the switchable loadout idea a lot.  I put nearly all of my points toward being a mage, but I still ended up alternating between warrior and mage for most of the game.  I think it'd be pretty hard to play exclusively as a mage, especially early in the game.

The magic system is kinda hard to get a handle on at first, but I enjoyed messing about with it and killing rhinos by making anvils fall on them and so on.  Once you figure out the stuff that works it's very powerful - unfortunately, once you figure out the stuff that really works then it's easy to break the game with it.

It should be in the display option. The name of this option is a bit misleading, but you should find it easy enough anyways.

I don't see anything wrong with them. It controls like I would expect a horse to control. They aren't the greatest, but they aren't terrible. The only thing wrong with it is getting on it can be a pain since jump is the same button. But I don't see what's so bad about the horse controls.

Tap LT to run, tap RT to stop. I don't see what's so terrible about those controls.

The tapping part sucks. Tap tap tap to get up to speed is one thing but having to continuously tap the entire time you're riding? That sucks and I'm never riding a horse again because of it. They should have made it so once you tap up to speed you then hold to maintain that speed.

Playing this on the 360 & the controls seem better with the gamepad, still leaves much to be desired as there's spots where you will stand there jumping instead of opening a lock or getting on the horse. Lockpicking in the game is silly easy & found that the best way to play it is switching between mage & warrior while summoning things like scorpions to block hallways then just using the homing elemental mage attacks to take out most anything early on. It's looking better than the first one but rather generic, broken in spots (where things will be stuck on geometry while you just hit them with magic/arrows), but entertaining to at least keep me wanting to see more of the landscape while looting the landscape.
